Also most cable and satellite companies state in the contract you sign that you cannot make any alterations to these boxes and that the property isn't yours either, it is merely being loaned to you so don;t even think about disabling it manually... Perhaps Orwell had inside knowledge of the brave new world we now find ourselves in, regards the surveillance society in which we find ourselves in. When I had the set top box installed by Fios the installer told me I can't unplug the box on my own, as a professional (Fios installers) has to do it. Since I was always able to unplug cable boxes and move them I was surprised. I asked him what if I want to move my TV to another wall. He said I need to call and make an appointment for them to come over because they have certain tools that will uninstall it and if I do it myself it will break and they'll charge me.
