I like Peter Schiff's argument, "Why is it suddenly legal to steal my money just because a majority vote to steal my money?!?!?"

Theft is theft, whether it's the government or some scumbag thug and his buddies who out vote you and decided to burglerize your house...

Welcome to the death of the Republic, the MSM and the politicians have been feeding the sheeple this Democracy line so long no one understands the difference between a Republic and a Democracy anymore, and so everyone thinks, Yay! It's a Democracy...but just wait until you are in the minority on some issue that effects your livelyhood, and you will be eventually, then you will long for the protections of the Republic once again...

To use an oft repeated phrase: Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what's for dinner...

As of today, December 14th, 2012, the US Congress has not decided on a budge and is no where near being able to vote on passage of any budget. President Obama won't compromise on his demand that Congress turn it's authority to limit government borrowing limits. The resistance to this demand lies on both sides of the Congressional isle, yet Obama is refusing to budge.

If the Congress should fail to come to a compromise with the President and not pass a budget by the deadline, come January, there won't be an American economy. I don't know what they are doing, but this is doom on a level I can't cope with. The suspense is killing me!

Will they pass a budge? What kind of compromise can there be when Obama refuses to give up his demand to control the countries purse strings? How can Congress pass any emergency measures when Obama is leaving them no room to maneuver?

I don't understand why people don't see that the budget isn't the fiscal cliff, its the debt. The debt is the fiscal cliff. Just like all of us, we really cannot spend more than we take in, and if we do by going into debt, eventually it catches up with us. Then we have to make big painful cuts into what we spend money on. It will be painful. But, it has to be done.

Another thing, this evil people that make over 250,000 or 200,000 a year. I heard a woman last night, 62 years old, saved her money her entire life and has 350,000 built up. She wants to retire so she is going to pull money out to pay off her house, credit card and car. This will leave her by the time she is done paying everything off with around 140,000 dollars. This is a woman who did the right thing, worked her butt off and saved very carefully, this will drive her over that cap and put her in the same tax bracket as the evil rich people. How is this fair. Hell, how can we even demonize these people, the majority of them worked their balls off to get where they are. My parents, working full time jobs and going to night school to get their bachelors and then masters, sacrificing years with us kids to give us a better life. Dad is a plant manager now and mom is a nurse practitioner. They don't make 250,000 and they had to pay well over 40,000 dollars in taxes last year. That is after all the write offs for charity, and the house as tax shelter. How dare anyone think they have a right to what my parents and so many others sacrificed so much for. Everybody has an opportunity, if they search it out. If you are black, hispanic, female etc, do you know how many scholarships and grants for school you have that I am not allowed to get because I am a white male. There are thousands. No reason, other than sheer laziness.

Sorry.

While I agree with some of what you say -- I cannot agree with the base argument that people who make 250,000 a year are evil.

What the hell kind of liberal socialist attitude is that? You feel you can be conservative and protective of your parents because of how hard they worked and saved but... those evil people who got a good education or landed themselves jobs in high paying markets are EVIL and somehow they are the problem with the world?

Tell you what kid, YOU are part of the problem for thinking that you are entitled to anything (except somehow your parents are exempt).

Get a frigging education, get a job and make a life for yourself and stop blaming everyone else for your bad & foolish choices.

Your parents deserve to keep what they earned SAME AS THE PEOPLE WHO EARN 250,000 a year or more.

You can bet whatever deal comes out of there will be bad for the country...

The fiscal cliff looked like a cake walk compared to what Obama was proposing.

Besides, the middle class (who they were never ever ever gonna raise taxes on, pinky promise) is going to see their taxes go up some $2500 per year for a family of four when Obamacare is fully implemented in 2014, they will see some taxes this year on their dividends and capital gains, so whatever happens, the economy is fucked...it's dead, it's like someone that just drank a glass of arsnic, dead but still walking around not knowing its dead...

This is good, but it goes way beyond that. It is the death of rational thought, the death of the golden age of philosophy that began with the magna carta and culminated in the US Constitution err maybe the 10 amendments (they almost forgot those hehe).

Natural rights begins with the idea that you own yourself and thus rights to your property, your labor or those things that through your labor you transform into items of value to other human beings. The rationalists were the pinnacle of human philosophy, the golden age of reason. Amazingly, simultaneously the opposite end of the spectrum also emerged that of utilitarianism or humanitarianism.

The idea that certain thoughts are supreme for the collective although the individual may suffer personal loss or even death. Individuality was at stake, and the individual died. Who killed the individual? Those who had amassed the greatest amount of wealth and power as they used the lies of humanitarianism to shape and mold public policy from behind the scenes to create a form of government in their own image, and image that enriched them further and consolidated their power.

Today this collectivism is summarized best as world wide communitarianism. In fact the aspiring and rising global government ideology is communitarian inspired, based on the sham of philosophy we call "humanitarianism".

This sham won't work, scams and shams never do for long they do not have longevity or "sustainability" they collapse eventually upon their own lies. The global government will fail as all other attempts before it failed from the Caesars of Rome to Hitler and the Third Reich. Unfortunately the rest of us are all pawns in this failed experiment which make decades or perhaps even centuries to unfold.

The vid I watched the other day with Joel Skousen he indicated that he though a massive catastrophe (nuke on american soil) would have to happen in order for them to allow the collapse (and 'escape' the blame for it... because they could then blame the collapse on the war/attack instead).

I wasn't so sure I bought his theory, but what you say above makes me reconsider it in a more serious vein...

It seems there are two distinct and overiding culture's duking it out in America today, the urban collectavist culture, and the rural rugged individualist culture. This is not to say these cultures are distinct to individuals that live in the city or the country, there are people in the country today that are every bit as collectavist as an avowed communist living in New York City or L.A. and some people living in the city that are every bit as rugged individualists as you see in Alaska or West Texas, but that said the gulf of ideals and idiology seems to be widening by the day.

Globalism and a constant move to a more Urban society are to blame, but they are factors that are here to stay, so our challange is to maintain and promote the rugged individualist culture within a world moving more and more towards collectavism.

It's an interesting challange and one we will continue to face, without a doubt, for the rest of our lifetime...

My interpretation of his post was: SOME people in that income bracket actually "worked for their money" because they had to save for their whole lives and OTHERS who didn't have to save for their whole lives somehow didn't have to work for it and had lives on easy street.

Hey AC, I am with you 100%. No one should have the right to take what your parents worked so hard for! I hate what this country is becoming. Don't you just love how they toss around the term "the rich"? It conjures up an image of those with mansions and a jet=set lifestyle when actually many of those they are calling "the rich" are small businesses and people like your parents who have worked extremely hard and sacrificed to get ahead.

Yeah AMT is going to become a much bigger issue going forward, if you itemize your return, you're going to have to calculate AMT even if you don't have to pay it...

So it's going to add a few hundred to your tax prep...

Going to hit a lot of small business people...

The Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) is an income tax imposed by the United States federal government on individuals, corporations, estates, and trusts. AMT is imposed at a nearly flat rate on an adjusted amount of taxable income above a certain threshold (also known as exemption). This exemption is substantially higher than the exemption from regular income tax.

Regular taxable income is adjusted for certain items computed differently for AMT, such as depreciation and medical expenses. No deduction is allowed for state taxes or miscellaneous itemized deductions in computing AMT income. Taxpayers with incomes above the exemption whose regular Federal income tax is below the amount of AMT must pay the higher AMT amount.
