Add a cup of your fav salsa and 1lb of smoked sausage, cut into thin slices and 1 beef bullion cube to a medium size crock pot. Cook until the beans are as tender as you like and bob is your uncle. You can do this with any sauce/meat mix. We have tried italian sausage with a tomato sauce base, beef tips with mushroom soup as a base...you can add just about anything. If you like a thicker sauce add a bit of cornstarch to the soupy mix and pair with some type of bread. Makes for awesome leftovers and its always filling. |

Btw, op, make a sofrito, with a little olive oil, sason, onion, some cut up pork fat, salt, pepper to taste. A little tomato paste. Add beans and water. Delicious. SPEAK UP. SILENCE IS DEADLY! I am currently experiencing life at several WTFs per hour. |

I decided to mash some white beans and used this recipe. It was delicious! Use whatever ingredients you have on hand and you don't need any expensive meats & vegetables. Add a bay leaf as they cook to get rid of the gas. [link to www.seriouseats.com] |

Recipe for making Navy Bean Soup or Pinto Bean Soup Wash a 16 oz package of dried beans Remove any stones that are in the package of beans Soak beans in a large bowl of water overnight Pour off the water and rinse the beans in the morning Boil beans with a pinch of salt in 2 quarts of water over medium heat for 2 hours Add 2 cans of broth (chicken for navy bean soup and beef broth for pinto bean soup and vegetable broth for vegetarians) Add 1 tablespoon of butter and half of a cup of milk (both of these ingredients are optional but recommended) Add 1 medium-to-large yellow onion finely diced Add 3 stalks of celery finely diced Add seasoning salt (like Lawry's) to taste Reduce heat and simmer over low heat for 1 hour Serve soup with cornbread with butter and honey Extra soup can be cooled in jars and refrigerated or frozen in zip lock bags or Tupperware containers. One pot of soup will yield 12 bowls of soup. So one pot of soup can feed 4 people 3 meals each. The soup can be made in a crock pot with everything added at once and the soup will be waiting for you when you get home from work. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 47390007 That's why you add Kombu [link to www.drweil.com] To further reduce the gas-producing properties of beans, add a large strip of dried kombu seaweed to the pot of beans and water prior to boiling. Remove the kombu once cooking is finished. You can find kombu in your local natural foods store or in ethnic markets. Adding a slice or two of ginger or some fennel or cumin seeds can also help. Additionally, skimming and discarding the foam during boiling is also an effective means of gas reduction |

I remember as a little kid when driving from TX to TN my Mother always made it a point to buy Tony's on the way through LA. I seriously think its by far the best Cajun seasoning. While You are at it get some Louisiana Red hot its by far better then Tabasco which tastes like shit. |

Im beginning to believe goya sazon is better than badia. It costs more but tastes better. Wanna put it over the moon? Dump in a can of vigo calamares or pulpo while its cooking. |

Quoting: new american diet ricenbeans 29253904 how do i make these bastards taste good ? Wow....you should never refer to your food as bastards. You should actually bless your food before you eat it. Add a tin of plum tomatoes (chopped) & some fresh or dried basil. You can also add some red/green peppers, chopped celery, chopped carrots etc. I bless my food only after and if I can poop it out in a healthy way. Seriously. I literally thank God and Jesus. "Thank You Jesus, Thank You Lord". I'm not going to bless the food if I'm eating at McDonald's. I'm going to curse it going in and going out. Why should you bless food? You've already worked for it. |
