I have to say, I LOL'd when they reversed the truck into it. The sound is hilarious. And they really don't care about that beat-up truck, do they?!!

EDIT - also a bit of a PITA if it stops rolling with the hatch facing down or blocked.
I think I'd want two hatches or a tin-opener.

That door can be kicked in. No point in having the locking mechanism if the door will break before it needs to be turned... And yeah, lol @ the lava. The only thing I could think MIGHT prevent this, is if it is set to sea.. but if that were to happen you'd inevitably die from lack of nutrients and water. Good lock to anyone who buys one of these...

In case of earthquakes your spine will be shattered in hundreds of pieces, as it rolls with you strapped at that ridiculously shitty chairs with '70s VW-like seat belts.

They the Chinese will send those home-made helicopters to rescue your remains inside the ball.

Looks more like a shitstorm to me! I'm sure you want to be strapped with '70s VW seat belts at kitchen chairs bolted inside a 5 meter-diameter hard ball with no damping system at all, during an earthquake.

Yepp, the lack of damping is a problem, among others. In the worst case one could have it in the backyard, for a hard ride. Also, there should be an inner sphere rotating independently.

Survival pod?

Looks like a ball-of-death to me.

I saw an episode of Inventions USA (Season 2) where a couple of guys invented something similar called the RES-Q Pod. It wasn't round though, theirs was shaped more like the old space capsules (but smaller) with the bottom weighted so it would always stay upright with the hatch on top.

The investors took a ride in it and got all banged up.

Looks like this May be helpful during one of those tsunami events. Some protection, and floats. I don't see any other long term usage. Did not see the bathroom, or beer cooler so I'll pass.

I've seen at least two others built for Tsunami purposes, one was clear, and had a second orb inside the first orb gyro type mechanism that kept you upright while rolling. Waterproof of course. The premise being, if you only have seconds before you're going to wash away, you get inside, you float, and the balls are tough enough to take massive hits from debris etc.

1...If it lands on the door...you're dead.

2...Looks like it weights too much.

3...You could call it a lawn ball to get around the zoning officer...
