As I understand it, it is required by law in all 50 states unless you claim an exemption (medical, religious or philosophical depending on the state). My son was born in a hospital and I was worried about how everything would be, but luckily my obstetrician was super, and supported all of my decisions.

I claim a religious exemption for vaccines, and claimed it in order to lawfully refuse the eye goop and Hep B vax in the hospital. He just had his 1 year appointment today with the pediatrician, and again, I'm fortunate to have one who recommends the vaccines but doesn't push the issue.

Reading about these things is horrifying. If this girl had done research prior to giving birth and brought an exemption form in, she would most likely not have had to go through all of this. It says a lot about the world in which we are living... If you aren't armed to the teeth with info, your child gets taken and/or you are charged with neglect.... Makes me sad for the future... and for the present.
