New cases of diabetes continue to increase exponentially every five to ten years. The toll this disease takes on millions of unsuspecting children and adults places the illness in a class by itself as it is the primary cause of death from diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Excess glucose in circulation slowly damages virtually every cell and molecular structure in our body as it makes critical proteins, enzymes and fats dysfunctional and significantly increases the risk of arterial plaque development. Fortunately, there are a handful of natural compounds that help negate the deadly effects of excess sugar. Vitamin K is one such agent, as it is shown to lower the risk of developing diabetes in an elderly cohort by more than 50 percent. Researchers publishing in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition have determined that individuals with the highest circulating levels of vitamin K1 have a total diabetes risk reduction of 51 percent as compared to those with the lowest levels. [ link to www.westonaprice.org] MK-4 is well tolerated and absorbed quickly. MK-7 has a long half life and is not absorbed quickly. It can have a stimulant effect in some people and even cause heart palpitations in some, like caffeine would. MK-7 has mixed results depending on the person. People taking MK-4 have reported not having plaque on their teeth anymore, some have even reported they've grown up to an inch. Best way to reverse/control diabetes is to not eat a lot of simple carbohydrates and have a diet that does not cause the blood sugar to rise above 140 mg/dl. A diet low in fat and protein will likely not achieve this with ample calorie intake. The last thing a type 2 diabetic should be eating is more simple carbohydrates. Go by what your glucose meter says after you eat. If a banana or apples/oranges cause you to spike above 140 mg/dl one hour after eating, don't eat them. Also there is evidence that K2 and Chromium can help regulate blood sugar. |
