He is a supposed father of one of the children in the classroom .. A second man is in custody .. he was caught running from the school when the shooting began and is currently in custody .. Children were asked to hold hands and walk out with their eyes closed .. multiple bodies .. screams from the murdering were heard over the intercom by the children .. So sad .. One crime over two yrs ago! This is insane. Everyone one here is walking around looking very grim. People in Stop & Shop are stopping and talking to each other about this. Never saw people so devestated looking. There are no words for this horrendous tragedy. Just prayers to the murdered victims, the innocents, and their families. |

I was raised in the NE and despite having relatively conservative parents, we were taught to fear guns - we were not allowed to play with friends houses if the parents had guns (even if they were police etc...) and societally, the region has an air of disrespect for gun owners as crazy, hick or criminal. When I moved to TX, the attitude is so different... It took me a while, but after some time and education I am 100% pro gun ownership to the point I now have my CHL and carry a CZ with a crimson trace (to practically guarantee my shot) in addition to a cadre of shotguns, rifles and other handguns. I am female - my hubs has a CHL as well. He carries everywhere, I am more sporadic due to wardrobe etc... I wouldn't even call us enthusiasts - our life does not revolve around it at all - its just cultural here. And we aren't crazy, hick or criminal. We are professional, upper middle class, church going, charity volunteering, non hunters etc... Far from my impressions growing up... Our kids have been taught to safely handle ALL our weapons, shoot them and most importantly how to unload and engage the safety on almost any gun they could ever run across. They never have the desire to go behind our back because a trip to the range available anytime they want to go no matter what else is going on (grounding etc...) We have finger print safes and pin lockers for each gun which allows for instant access while still keeping the kids safe... I feel safe almost everywhere I go in TX... When I go back to the NE I feel inherently unsafe almost everywhere I go. Will bad people do evil things in TX - yeah, sure. But here I know some armed citizen will pop him off sooner than not and limit the casualties... I firmly believe the damage could have been significantly reduced in this case had there been a CHL carrier nearby. Evil will always abound - that is what's sad. But the reality is the casualties are so high here BECAUSE the NE is so gun averse. An armed, responsible teacher, admin, parent or security guard could have stopped this sooner but none of those groups can carry in Conn schools... The answer is we need MORE armed good guys, not less... We can never allow evil to outnumber us... THIS Many many incidences of armed citizens putting a quick stop to this kind of thing.
