I homeschool my kids. I don't understand the purpose of bringing children into this world only to turn around and let someone else take care of them day after day, all day, out of sight. I am the mother, it is my job to teach and raise my children to make sure they are safe and successful. The children are our future...people really want to leave that to a bunch of strangers?

Today, more than ever, I am thankful that I have the opportunity to stay home and raise my kids and homeschool them.

I also believe that there are so many misconceptions about homeschooled kids. It is far superior to public school. My kids are 4 and 5 and already on subtraction in math and my 5 year old is reading and my 4 year old is on his way to reading. They are beyond Kansas State Standards for Kindergarten but the public school here would not even allow my daughter to start Kindergarten until she is 6 years old because of her birthday. THey are also well socialized. School is not meant to be for making friends and who wants friends like that anyway? (the kinds of kids in school today!)

tell that to the five year olds that got shot. they were not and could not be equipped to deal with that. keep young ones at home if at all possible. homeschooling does not have to mean smothering.

homeschooling is hard work. it is easy to let others do all the work for you. plus you get a break while they are at school. sending them to school is easy and lazy.

Teaching them to take care of themselves wouldn't even have worked in this instance.

The fucking teachers LIED to them and told them it was a wild animal that got loose and was making noise.

I think parents think that it is an entirely hard job to homeschool. It actually can make everyones life easier and safer.

All you need is an itinerary type of plan, there are plans online for the specific age group. Tell the school you will be doing this and they will simply ask for your agenda/plan (copy theirs?) as to teaching, that is basically it. Then you teach them at your home, no snow days needed, they are free to attend any appts they may have, no school clothes needed to buy, they can spend time away from home learning which equals more trips, younger ones may learn quicker if there are older ones involved, etc.

To have them become victims of injections/bar coding/abuse from teachers and or other students, etc. simply seems to be the cruel way to be educated now a days. The schools may lose dollars due to a loss of a student or however, that money should be given to the parents to homeschool or should be deducted by the town as to any monetary valued income. They should not be able to take that money in if they are not providing (even by choice of the parents) and therefore.....those towns and citys may give a parent a hardtime as to the loss of the dollars involved each year to their system. If they cannot provide adequate systems that do not include bar coding/safety, etc. then they are not worth paying into.

Parents can provide the education, you do not need a college education to teach your children, do not let them make you inadequate.

My point is that you can't always be there to protect your kids so they need to know how to take care of themselves. Even when you are there, tragedies can happen like getting taken out by a drunk driver or a theater shooter. But, you will eventually have to let your kids out of your sight - to play at a friend's house, to stay overnight at a friend's house, to stay overnight at the grandparents' house. You will need to cut those apron strings at some point. There's nothing sadder than a parent who is still babying grown children. You know, the ones who call and talk to their kids college profs.

Sorry I can't agree with this. I wouldn't home school my kiddies. They need to be around kids their own age and be able to play and have fun and make friends.

I find home schooled children a little withdrawn, shy & too sheltered. That being said I live in a very small town of 1000 people and we have a great school with great teachers. If there was any ever form of bullying or neglect I would have my boy out of there quick smart.

I home school all 10 of my children, my oldest now in college! my youngest is 1 yrs old and they will never see the inside of a public school unless we go to PREACH!!

You live in a world of capitalism...people have to go to work to support their families in this system...it's a system set up in a way that makes it close to mandatory to send your children to the system to be taught how to become part of the system.

Homeschooled kids miss out on the most memorable things that Public Schools have to offer.

-Bullying
-Popularity & Status Segregation
-Racial Segregation
-All the Stereotyping that goes on in Public Schools

I send my kids to a little francophone school. The class sizes are 9-13 students on average and they learn 3 languages.

Still teach cursive. No calculators or cellphones allowed.

My son is fluent in 2 languages in second grade and doing above level in everything else.

Also doesn't cost me a dime.

If I did not have this little gem, I would home school. Homeschool kids are the best.

It's like night and day when you compare the homeschooled to the publicly educated.
