This whole "construct" (as the architect would say in the "Matrix" movie) is designed to desensitize you. This isn't heaven. It could be, but we won't allow it due to our own self destructive design flaws in our brains thanks to TPTB. You want to ban this and that. Why not ban schools. This is where the majority of instances like this take place. Kids get thrown into an unknown environment and are stuck alone learning the psychological effects that come associated with it; some become bully's, some become introverts, etc... It's how the cards roll on the table at the time. Teachers don't have the time to step in and God knows that parents don't have the time. Just saying. |

I agree with banning schools (at least the public ones), but for a whole slew of reasons irrelevant to the thread and incompatible with the amount of time I want to spend typing. Anyhoo... In earlier generations, parents didn't have to find the time for such things....they made time for their kids. There's a difference...and a huge one at that. |

| Anonymous Coward User ID: 1395091 12/14/2012 07:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Maybe you're all angry young men because your sitting your ass on a couch all day playing video games instead of putting that testosterone to use being physically active and outside. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 29412599 Ever thought of that?! At a time in a man's life when he has the MOST testosterone, he's sitting stale at home in front of a monitor pretending to be an assassin. And you wonder where the anger comes from. Another point is that video games are violent, and in the hands/minds of a troubled person is a catalyst for all types of physical violent behavior...on animals, on parents, on inanimate objects, and some extreme cases like today. And yet another point is that 1st person shooter games are not just games, they're weapons training. How else does a child with no military training take out so many at once? Remember the Virginia shooting? It wouldn't be the first time that's happened. Even before video games. Quoting: -GooGooFlexy- Just lumping the killers in with the "sad people" and not examining the situation further is what we keep doing, over and over and over. Even when there is a clear and obvious cause, like a brain tumor, we downplay it because we like to think we have free will. I got my first Nintendo at 7 and have pretty much been blasting monsters since. I have played every Grand Theft Auto release since the first for the original Playstation and yet I've never stolen a car. I've never run over a hooker to get my money back from her. I've never shot at a human being. I'm now in my early 30s and a productive member of society. BAN IDIOTS. That's a good start. |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 27601769 12/14/2012 07:47 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The games are already rated. And you can't purchase some unless you are a certain age. So what now? Can't make shooting games at all? Ok. No violent movies either. Lets just all sit around and read the bible. We can just sit here with our fingers in our ears and pretend like Jesus is the answer. |

| a_game_designer_01 User ID: 29104310 12/14/2012 07:48 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Now if you REALLY want a great GLP style conspiracy topic, talk about the way FUNDING a game works. Imagine walking into a room full of suits and saying, "I have this great idea! Can I have $25 million?" The people who control the purse strings determine what gets made. Call of the Duty sales have been surpassing a BILLION frigging dollars. That's one reason they get funded. But honestly, it's the same game every year (just like Madden)! Same game but with new assets, maps and models cooked up with whatever the latest/hottest shader and lighting tech is available and with 20% more polys on screen. I'm going to go out on a limb here though and predict we may be seeing the FPS markest beginning to crest. You may laugh but "E-Sports" are beginning to gain serious ground. It's to the point that it is beginning to influence game design. Make sure your game is as fun to watch as it is to play so pros can stream it and spectators can watch it! There's a huge side-market brewing with "E-Sports" that has gotten the attention of the project funders. Current FPS games don't make great E-Sports simply because they are not as fun to watch as games like League of Legends, Street Fighter or even a platformer or a good MMO. Not to mention, the ultra-violence of it turns a lot of people off. So the next decade will likely see the marginalization of the first person shooter genre unless they take serious steps to make it more fun to watch. The problem is they may try but doing so will likely marginalize their core player base, reduce sales (and future funding) and slowly strangling the FPS genre out either way. |
