Are you a parent? I am. I don't WANT my kid outside. He's safer with me doing enriching things like playing with the cats at our local animal shelter or arts and crafts at our house but video games are a whole heck of a lot safer for him than sending him out into the streets these days.

Through the Internet, we can search Google Earth on my iPad to look at the countries his ancestors come from.

I don't plop him in front of the teevee and hope for the best but I'd rather he be inside playing something innocent on the iPad than riding around on his bike these days. Sad but true.

I've banned TV, movies, most bullshit music (99% of all music that isn't classical or jazz), and of course, video games.

My kids are 4 and they don't know any different, because they haven't been exposed to this nonsense.

I have to say, bias aside, my kids are smarter and more "alive" than most other little brats that they associate with. I realize that my kids will experience these things more and more as they get older. But I know that I let their brains develop properly in their formative years.

These things will never be banned. But you can do your part by banning them from your life, and your house.

Somewhere along the way, the notion of "sheltering" your kids became something to frown upon. How fucked is that? How stupid are you people who believe this?

Sheltering my kids is my job. It's the most important job ever.

I've been playing video games all my life.

And never once have I had the urge to shoot anyone, let alone go on a murderous rampage.

In fact, I'm a gun owner and people have invited me to go hunting with them before, and I refused. You know why? Because I don't want to kill anything if I can avoid it, even an animal.

You have to be seriously fucked up for video games to effect you in such a way that you'd go out and visit violence on someone. And if you're that fucked up already, you'd be violent with or without the video games.

We don't need any more laws people, we don't any banned forms of expression. You ban these things, you gotta enforce it. You gonna arrest 'lil Jimmy for playing GTA? Throw the programmer who made a java game app after a ban on video games in jail? No, no, no. Less laws, not more.
