Amen Aussie! There are too many parents who drive their kids to insanity of some sort. Not the outright kind but the kind where problems are not solved through true communication and some kids, like this CT shooter, they snap!

The parents raise the child to be strong or weak.

Society takes over when the parents stop being the role model.

I agree. I've worked with troubled and at-risk kids for years. It ALWAYS comes down to parenting.


You will see people blaming the schools. You will see people blaming the environment. You will see people blaming big pharmaceutical companies. You will see people blaming the government, the church or the lack of the church, drugs, TV, video games, etc...

But, the buck stops at the parent - they are the ones in charge of their own kids - and they are the ones responsible.

I homeschool, we have no tv in our home ect, ect,..but we know an awful lot of good families who teach their kids strong values and guess what...they still WANT video games!!! It's sheep on the course of the norm that they are being fed! Until the masters stop feeding it will it stop....

I don't completely disagree her as I'm a homeschool parent raising productive young me. However sheep are sheep...parents are doing what is fed to them and it trickles.......our world needs to wake up!!!!

I have seen kids from the best most loving caring parents turn into complete retards and die of a heroin overdose or en up in jail for murder.

Here everyday if parents love and care about their children and try to tell them not to do the wrong thing and teach them there is consequences.
The state comes in removes the kids and puts them somewhere they can do whatever they like.
And they end up complete fuckwits because the State removed the parents authority over them.
Every day this happens but you wont hear about it on the news.

Always comes down to the parents? I don't think so. Sometimes it comes down to the peer pressure, sometimes it comes down to drugs/alcohol, and sometimes it comes down to total lack of empathy for fellow humans.

If the parent taught the child right from wrong, values, and the dangers of substance abuse, you wouldn't have to worry about the peer pressure, drugs/alcohol abuse, and lack of empathy.

Perhaps I should have reiterated that this was before the children became entitled assholes.

And such behaviour would have been taught by their parents in the first place.

Most parents love their kids. Even parents who love their kids and live a good, clean life can be pissy parents. I've seen it any number of times. People always say, "But they are such good parents." Bull shit. If you dig, you will find the problem.

The problems I've personally seen in these "good parent" situations which have ended sadly: 1) Parents who give their children too much material stuff and expect too little responsibility in return 2) Parents who play favorites - there is one good child who gets rewarded for his good behavior and is easy to raise and there is one difficult child who the parents don't know how to handle, so are constantly punishing and getting into power struggles with. 3) Parents so busy with their public "face" that they end up neglecting their children. 4) Parents who are too involved and don't let their child grow emotionally and become what he wants to be - not what the parents want him to be. 5) parents who try too hard to be cool or friends to their kids. 5) Parents who are overly authoritarian. 6) Parents who only have a nice public face but are nasty in private.

You can stop blaming the parents of a 24 year old.

That shit doesn't fly when you've been an adult for 6 years and you've had a chance to break away from your horrible, awful parents.

You have to take responsibility eventually.

Just curious, how long are we allowed to blame our parents for the horrific acts of violence we commit against 5 year old children? I'm 38 now, my dad spanked me when I was 8..I'm still bitter about it, they also let me play with the Atari often, you know since I didn't want to be up their asses 24/7 and wanted my own time to do the activities I liked, they must be bad parents. Is it his fault if I go out and harm someone because I'm pissed about it?

Yeah, whatever you want to believe. Parents can do their best but that does not mean that the children will grow up to be productive adults.
There are situations where the parents don't parent, but there are also situations where the kids just don't give a crap and it doesn't matter what the parents do.
I have one brother who retired as a top ranking marine and one brother who died an alcoholic, I on the other hand am somewhere in the middle. You tell me how any of that has to do with my mother.

No one ever takes into account that some people just aren't born right. Meaning they're missing something us normal people have inside. They lack emotion, feeling, they are cold, empty. They don't feel compassion, sympathy or empathy. Some people are just all fucked up and great parenting wont change that.

Gaming is fun, but if you do it every day it fucks you up. Parents should make sure their kids keep it to an hour a day and an adults should keep it to the same. Read a book or learn a trade or hobby with the rest of your time. I'm currently learning guitar.

People are always looking for something to 'blame' to explain and add closure for themselves.

There is a near-infinite amount of reasons things like this happen. Parents are only one of the possible ones.


You can't make blanket statements on something like this. I'm sorry, but you just can't.

Values are caught not taught in the life of any child. Parenting is 24/7 on hands teaching. TV and games are a form of PET sitting...NOT PARENTING! wake up parents

Guitar is nice. Children are awesome. You are not talking about the parents who are both unable to take care of them or talk to them reasonably due to the fact that they both are working away from home. What about the latchkey kids? What about the orphans? Who takes care of them?

We now have a generation of grown men wasting their lives away in front of a video game. And to say that using them in moderation is the solution is like saying to use crack cocaine only once win a while. They ar a selfish, mind programming way of passing time and becoming very predictable and programable.

Its not just the kids that are addicted to video games, its the men that have unknowingly lost their appeal because of their obsesion with them. Most women dont want a man who is so self absorbed and plays video games 24/7. Its a big turn off. Of course some women look at it like babysitting for their husbands/boyfriends.

I've always said $15 makes the best baby sitter every month...and it really does.

If someone plays video games, they are addicted. Trying to defend that means you are just in the stage of denial. The chemical reactions and mind triggers are what keeps the addict coming back for more.
