In California, you can be a felon. Just requires a waiver by the police chief.

In most states, you can have a misdemeanor and still pass the process.

With me, I passed Department of Justice, FBI fingerprint, State Attorney General background check and criminal background check with a completely spotless record before I could receive my license.

But I am still treated by bank officials as a "danger" when I walk into the bank armed. Though state law allows me to do so, I must acquiesce to private entities banning the carry of guns, even if licensed by the police. I now use the drive-up window.

Indeed, and it is these types of people who should have the right to protect themselves form robbery and assault at gunpoint.

These days walking the streets is a risky business, just look at that case in London where the girl was knocked down..

People need protection, and the police are nto there when they are needed due to the existing wrokload of policing an entire city, so why not give responsible people the chnace to protect themselves?

Cops can walk around with bullet proof gear, and have immediate access to additional backup. Let the teachers do what they do best and the cops do what they do best.. also serve as a deterrent. Who is going to walk into a building to commit a crime when they know law enforcement is already on the premises.

Switzerland requires all adults to possess military assault weapons and they do not have anywhere near the gun deaths we do.

Because handguns are conveniently portable enough to keep them with you at all times. You aren't going to lug that shot gun with you all over the place. You are going to leave it at your house or at the most leave it in your vehicle where it will do you no good at all if you are attacked outside of your home. Criminals and murderes attack people whenever and wherever they want. Owning a gun for defense that you don't have with you when you need it is useless.

Don't get me wrong. A shot gun is a great home defense weapon. It just isn't going to be something you carry with you outside the home. Thats what handguns are for.

You're right.. there is no correlation between numbers of guns in any given area, and incidence of mass shootings. However there IS a correlation between tighter gun control laws in a given region, and a lower number of mass shootings in that geographical area.
