Re: Just saw the moon dissapear????
There's some clouds alright. But they ain't the atmospheric kind. More like the Stratoshperic kind. I haven't seen the moon in weeks. Been pitch Black on my mountain. A weird kind of blackness. Can barely see at night. Have to use a flashlight now and never had too before.

Strange glow in the North also every night. Like somthing trying to rise but doesn't ever. Just a glow way far north on the horizon.

Just the first crescent after the new moon. you probably saw it right after sunset and the Moon itself has now set. It will be up a little later tomorrow and then later the next day, etc.

The only problem is I saw the cresent dissapear before my eyes like a lunar eclipse. It was about a hour after the sun dropped just very strange seeing it with my eyes. And clouds were not a factor. Funny how once the moons light left it was pitch black and a weird void left in its place. Like it was there but not visible.

About an hour after the sun set is when the Moon was supposed to set. Let me guess, you were looking West right?

Re: Just saw the moon dissapear????
Found an explanation for tonight's moon disapearance. CA and Colorado Springs are on the list for the moon's disapearance as it goes briefly behind a star.
Lunar Occultation of Star Monday Evening

December 15, 2012Leave a comment

As the Moon travels across the sky it passes in front of many stars. Most of the time these stars are too faint to be easily seen near a bright Moon. On occasion the Moon will pass in front of bright stars or even the planets in an event that can be followed with the naked eye. This Monday evening the Moon will pass in front of the 4th magnitude star ν (nu) Aquarii.

The occultation will be visible from the central and western states of the United States, as well as northern Mexico and south central and southwestern Canada (see the map below). Though Hawaii is in the path it will be daylight at the time of the time of the occultation. For observers in the eastern US they will only see the Moon approach the star but not pass in front of it before the Moon sets. The image to the right shows the Moon and ν (nu) Aquarii at ~9:10 pm MST from Tucson, Arizona. This is right before the time of disappearance. To get times for the disappearance and reappearance of the star behind the Moon from many different locations, go to the International Occultation Timing Association’s (IOTA) page for this occultation.

Of course not... this article describes a scar going behind the moon, not the moon going behind a star.

Please tell me this is a joke????? There are no stars in between the moon and the earth. That has to be the most ridiculous explanation I can imagine. Maybe a orbiting cow.

No, that says it is going IN FRONT OF a star so you won't be able to see that star briefly. The Moon likely "disappeared" because it set. The time people said it "disappeared" is just about when it was supposed to set.

Re: Just saw the moon dissapear????
I saw this happen here in Christchurch New Zealand last night the moon at about 1030 was abnormally large driving home it was a complete clear night and it disappeared im still trying to work this out in my another thing i noticed last night which i haven't seen before was satellite looking objects alot of them strategically placed up in the sky they stay stationary tho however at one point i saw two of them change position in the sky. Thier was a very strange airy feeling last night here in chch.
