There has been nearly 10,000 firearm murders and 30,000 gun related deaths in the US this year. I don't advocate a gun grab but tougher regulations on getting weapons and harsher penalties for unregistered firearms.

Brevik planned his shooting for years, he went far and wide to get his equipment, hiding out a farm and planning, you wont be able to stop that. You can however limited mass shootings done by people are just able to walk down to the local walmart and buy one off the shelf with all the live ammo they want. You can put a dent in the THOUSANDS of people killed each year in firearm related murders, such as gang murders which chances are wouldn't be done if they didn't have access to firearms.

No tougher regulations on buying weapons, assault weapons ban, harsher penalties for unregistered firearms, clip restrictions. I'm not advocating a gun grab on registered firearms. By all means go hunting and have one in the home for defence. But it has to start somewhere because so far the right has not moved an inch on any of these issues despite there being support for them.

As this was unfolding this morning i was thinking about a "rumor" that was going around a year or two ago about Hillary Clinton sending a letter to Russia asking for 40,000 troops if civil unrest broke out in the U.S. Then that made me think about Obummers remark about having more flexibility after the election. I wonder if Obummer will issue an E.O. for gun control and back it up with martial law. IDK...maybe that's a stretch but not much would surprise me anymore, especially if there were to be some more "incidents". To answer your question I would say some will turn in guns, some will hide them and some will fight when they come to get them.

I have looked at the FBI data, and firearm fatalities have fallen, especially with "assault weapons". I own several, and not one of them has ever hurt a soul.
