And you know what, yesterday I would have said that my 9 year old was too young for a cell phone - after watching this unfold today and seeing how long the parents waited for news, I am thinking of getting him one. And if the school tries to take it from him (as they so often do) I will personally go in there and tell them they can fuck off, my kid is going to have a charged and powered on phone in his pocket while he is away from me so he can CALL ME and let me know WTF is going on should anything like this arise.

That being said, there are only like 2.5 days of school around here for xmas break, and there is a strong possibility my child will be being home schooled before classes go back in session in January. Fuck this shit - not only did this situation illustrate clearly the kind of danger even our smallest children are in, it also demonstrated how much power and authority the schools and government assume over them once they have been dropped off in the morning. I said it before and I'll say it again, it would be a cold day in hell before ANYONE would be keeping me away from my child in a situation like this...
