Anonymous Coward User ID: 30223446 United States 12/18/2012 07:15 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Analysis: Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Joy Scott — a student killed in the 1999 shootings at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado — did make this speech during testimony on May 27, 1999 before the Subcommittee on Crime of the House Judiciary Committee. It was the first of many similar talks he has delivered on the subject. Spurred on in part by writings in the notebooks and diaries left behind by his daughter, Mr. Scott — the son of an Episcopalian minister, though he himself is adamantly non-denominational — quit his job, set up a non-profit organization called The Columbine Redemption, and embarked on a grueling schedule of speaking engagements all across the United States to spread his message. Was Scott's testimony inadequately covered by the press, as most versions of this forwarded email suggest? Opinions will differ. There wasn't a great deal of major news coverage — you aren't likely to have seen it on television, for example — but there was coverage. (The same goes for the testimony given by several other of the parents of the Columbine victims who appeared before the same committee, some of whom expressed opinions which differed considerably from Mr. Scott's.) Darrell Scott's speech was covered nationally by the Scripps Howard and Associated Press wire services, not to mention in daily newspapers across the U.S., such as the Denver Rocky Mountain News, the St. Paul Pioneer Press, the Washington Times, the Boston Globe, the Arizona Republic, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Chicago Sun-Times... well, you get the idea. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 25007705 Or is it reasonable to allow teenagers with criminal records to buy guns and ammunition? If you'd check your facts: He was denied buying a gun and then took his mom's and used that. He wasn't able to buy a gun at the store because of his age and criminal past -.- |

Where is God? User ID: 32640282 United States 01/20/2013 09:11 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hey folks... you forgot about GOD in your replies. Your comments are rather earthy. Maybe you don’t know where God is, but He knows where you are. In my 40 years of adult life I have seen a steep decline is our trust and respect toward each other. Unlocked doors are now locked... yea double and triple locked, burglar alarms are set, windows are barred, security lights on all night, night watchmen on the beat and security cameras monitoring our movements 24/7. We now see people off at the airport departure gate, not at the jetway. Gun, alcohol and tobacco control has had only mediocre success. The result is a complex public security system that has made us more distrusting of each-other resulting in a “he-hit-me-back-first” attitude. What changed? Blame Hollywood, blame television, blame the media, blame the politicians, blame… well blame others. If Hollywood produces a show the majority of the people do not want to watch it fails same for TV. If the Media reports on things that are of no interest to the general public, watchers and subscribers decline. If a politician looses the confidence of the majority his demise is forthcoming. When the general populace did not want smoking in public places it was largely successful. So what is the answer… repentance... real repentance. No plea bargaining, not exoneration and not media black-out. A “glow-in-the-dark” or “flash-by-the-day” speech, show or story. America the beautiful needs to humble herself, recognize her misdeeds and errant ways. That is not very likely to happen without some national calamity. What happened on 9/11? Many went to church! What happens when there is a local calamity? Prayer is invoked. Meanwhile the majority of American do not want that… else it would happen. Mr Scott is right… crime is as old as mankind. We can’t fix ourselves, much less our nation and world. All attempts to do so will only succeed in mild improvements. I choose to believe in God, the 7 day creation, repentance, the saving blood of Jesus Christ, life worth living, and an eternal reward in heaven for the redeemed vs. enjoying the pleasures… err yes “pleasures” of life for a few years and then eternal condemnation in hell, forever repenting.. You can make your choice… You only have 2 to pick from. |
