Depending on the shape of your eyes and the thickness of the lower lid, when your tears come from the tear glands they can make their way immediately down the face at the nose, or work their way to the side of the face and work their way down the cheek.

Tears stream at the outer corner of my eye, rarely if ever at the inner corner/near the nose.

The reason it might have seemed fake and contrived to social misfits like you is because you guys cannot read emotions.

He was holding back from weeping because he is the president of the USA. A president is not supposed to be an emotional character in these cases, instead, a president needs to be someone people can rely on for moral support(amongst other things).

This morning while watching the morning news on NBC, they were showing still shots of the shooting. They put up a beautiful still shot of a tear at the side of Oblameo' R eye....I must say that it was a well done photoshop.
