Laughed at and mocked at work...

Something came up this week where my position was in question. As in, maybe I would not be working there anymore. Not due to anything I had done but just because of the business needs. Now, this is not my only source of income and that is no secret. So I said to everyone, "I'm willing to go with the flow. Whatever you guys want is okay with me. I've been here a long time. I'm willing to stay a while longer, or leave. Whatever is best for the business. I have no agenda."

At the phrase 'I have no agenda'... the room burst out into mocking laughter. I was treated like I had just told the biggest lie the world has ever known. Like I was so dumb I was actually trying to pull something over on everyone and that I *HAD* to have an agenda!

Wow.

What has the world come to that everyone is soooo freaking jaded? Can't a human being just live and have no agenda for getting over on other people or sucking every last penny from a dying business?

At first I felt mad and insulted. But then I really just began to feel sorry for these people. They must live in a dark and scary dog-eat-dog world (in their minds).
