WTF? Adam Lanza couldn't feel pain?
Sorry, don't have a link for this yet. But just heard on Fox News that people who knew Adam when he was younger said he had a condition where he couldn't feel pain. They had to be careful playing sports with him because he could get hurt and not know it. Has anybody ever heard of this before?

Will try to find another source confirming this.

Here we are:

[link to www.nydailynews.com]

A “longtime” family friend said Lanza had a condition “where he couldn’t feel pain.”

“A few years ago when he was on the baseball team, everyone had to be careful that he didn’t fall because he could get hurt and not feel it,” said the friend.

I think most feel emotional pain probably more than average but cant express it.But many cant feel physical pain and its very troubling to a parent because you have to constantly pay attention for any symptom of illness or hurt because the child wont know they need to see a doctor unless someone else notices it.
Emotionally they suffer greatly and feel helpless as to how to deal with it.Things that upset us such as this shooting that happened they likely cant feel anything in regard to it but on the flip side some feel pain over something we wouldnt consider important at all.One person I know says taking a shower feels like torture but its a daily routine so they adjust to accept it each day.Its a strange condition and varies a great amount from person to person.

I have an Asppy kid and he feels pain but has a very high threshold. He had some pain from a tooth that needed a root canal but barely complained.

High pain threshold is very common but many times something so simple as touching them hurts them.Thats why they dont like hugs or physical contact. Its not pleasant to them to be touched.Lots of times they will go through the routine and allow a hug or return one because everyone else is doing it so it must be "normal".Thats just one way they adapt to fit in.

Re: WTF? Adam Lanza couldn't feel pain?
Sorry - I hit post and my response (above) disappeared. I'll try again. Aspergers kids do sometimes have that condition. They do feel emotional pain (overly so) but only as relating to them - they don't connect to others and are unconcerned that another person feels bad. They can throw some big tantrums when they don't get their way, and they often cannot seem to admit that they are wrong about something or take responsibility for their own actions: mom didn't put the homework in the bookbag, mom left the lunch on the table, the other kid started the argument, the teacher didn't explain well enough or lied, etc. They also can get very tied up in computer/video games and teachers and parents should be careful using that as a reward because it's not healthy in the long-term. Unfortunately, I know a lot of parents of such children who don't see a problem with gaming and even encourage it because it keeps the child happy and calm and out of their hair.
