Re: They're screaming for more gun control but we better ban knives, cars, ladders, & beds too!
If somebody really wants to kill another, they will figure a way to do it. However, guns were made for one purpose and that is to kill. Ladders, knives, cars, and beds were made for other purposes but people do lose their lives to accidental injury or sometimes (in the case of knives) purposeful injury. It's really two different things. There is absolutely no reason to ply our sick public with any handguns or even automatic and semi-automatic weapons in general.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7570540

Swords, bows, crossbows, etc were made to kill as well. Maybe they should be banned too?
 Quoting: Major Doom

No, because they are much less effective to kill 26 people in a few minutes.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 29904248

Oh really now...

Take a look at Mutsuo Toi who murdered 30 people with his trusty axe and samurai sword in 1938.
DOOM is what you make of it.

If they made an automatic multi-shot within seconds crossbow, then yes. I'm not saying all guns should be banned, but you can hunt and target shoot with single-shot weapons. The idea that anything that any weapon should be legal is preposterous. Let's give every family a nuclear weapon or a military tank, or maybe a fighter jet. We have to protect ourselves, after all.

Again, Major Doom.

Show me where in this thread anyone said we should ban all guns, and not just increase the control over their distribution.

If you don't, I'll have to call you a liar and a shill for saying we did.

Re: They're screaming for more gun control but we better ban knives, cars, ladders, & beds too!
Honestly, this seems to be a stupid argument some of you are having. Yes, you can kill using other means than guns. Look at 911, look at Oklahoma City. Even in early years poisons and knives were used. If somebody wants to kill - there are means to do it. However, automatic/semi-automatic weapons add a new wrinkle to the situation because they are so very accessible to everyone - even the mentally ill. They serve absolutely no purpose other than to kill multiple victims during each event.

Tell me WHY they should be legal when you can target practice and hunt with the old-fashioned single-shot rifle and shotgun? Realize, you then need to come up with a good argument as to why anyone who wants one should be allowed to have military-style missiles and tanks? No? You don't want every sicko or Al qaeda sleeper cell in this country to have a nuclear weapon or armed tank? Why? Because there is the chance it could be misused and kill hundreds? So, it's OK to give these people multiple guns which can kill dozens but not a missile launcher which can destroy property and kill hundreds. Where do we draw the line?

Re: They're screaming for more gun control but we better ban knives, cars, ladders, & beds too!
Yes, yes, we've all seen the headlines "20 people massacred with a ladder" and "soldiers horrific new weapon of war, the bed, deadliest weapon year, capable of firing 3000000 cop killer pillows per second" and "two teenagers kill over 30 fellow students with a knife before cutting own throats"

Totally in the same league as guns.

Get a grip, this argument is fucking stupid.

The fact of the matter is killing with a gun is as fast and simple as pointing your finger. You need to admit that. I understand, and agree to a certain point (I don't see why people should have a "right" to uzis etc) that you should be allowed the means of protecting yourself, but you cannot seriously think that the amount of gun murders and massacres in your country isn't directly related to the easy availability of guns.

STUPID.

"Wu Huanming, 48, killed seven children and two adults and injured 11 other persons with a cleaver at a kindergarten in Hanzhong, Shaanxi on May 12, 201"

Sorry, that these people didn't kill more children maybe people would consider knives to be more dangerous and not as "easy as pointing a finger" to kill someone...oh wait can't you just flail your arm around and kill someone with a knife?

Also, I wouldn't be surprised that any of you care because the children weren't white.

My grand childs father got in frenzy lastnight after he was told he showed on the wrong pick-up day, threw his truck in reverse..hooked it left and whacked me in the hip with the damn thing.

Trucks are a big danger and im calling for their BAN!

LOL...

Not the drivers fault at all...that damn truck did it.

So, not really surprised your from BELGIUM and think that people in USA can buy automatic weapons legally without a permit but for an individual person to own an AUTOMATIC weapon they must either have a preban 1986 weapon OR a class 2 or 3 weapons permit.

Knives are designed for various purposes, guns are designed to kill. You can't shoot your Sunday roast into neat slices, and it would be pretty hard to spread butter with a gun.

Also, unless your some sort of fucking ninja, you can't hide up a tower or behind a car and kill people from a distance by lobbing knives or meat cleavers at them. What you gonna do, carry a huge sack of them around when you get into a "knife-out" with police or a rival gang?

This form is collected and maintained on all long guns purchased from FFL dealers as well, however is not required for the transfer of long guns between private parties."

Okay...once again read up on our gun laws or just shut the fuck up USA has a lot of regulations on guns and most states have their own laws. That almost completely ban you from owning guns.

If only the school had one gun in a safe place and a staff member was able to get to that gun and stop even just one of the children from being shot and killed or possibly all! As a parent and as an employee of an elementary school in Ct, I would welcome a way to defend the children!

Legally defined assault weapons and .50 BMG rifles listed by make and model by the DOJ must be registered. Their sale and transfer is prohibited. Military look-alike rifles that are not chambered for .50 BMG and are not on the DOJ roster are legal to purchase or possess, with some restrictions in configuration—known as "banned features." Active-duty military members residing out of state and assigned to duty in California may bring personally-owned assault weapons into the state. Also look up individual states for their gun laws, California and Florida are good comparisons. Oh, and surprisingly the states with more gun control have higher crime rate involving guns......
