My Daughters Were Traumatised Seeing AR-15s On Display at Walmart This Evening

The shooter in CT knew how to use an AR-15 ... and now 20 young children are D-E-A-D .

I was in the Air Force and went thru familiarization with the M-16A1, then the A2. I'm not afraid of rifles, I realize that they have a purpose in the military and law enforcement. And that purpose is to KILL people.

However, I don't want 20 year-old mentally unstable dorks being able to run by Walmart and pick up an AR and a case of ammo, then go shoot up a kindergarten. That can't be allowed to happen EVER again.

Earlier tonight while at Wally World we swung by sporting goods so I could pick up some fishing supplies. Daughter no.1 first noticed it, an AR-15 (not sure if it was a Bushmaster) on display in the gun case behind the counter.

Daughter number 2 is a bit older and more aware, and she was very upset at seeing it there. She asked "daddy, is that the gun that was used to kill all those kids in the school?" -- and I had to answer that yes dear, that's the gun that was used to kill those kids.

I will be writing a letter to Walmart asking them to at least consider not selling AR-15s anymore, or at least keep them where young children cannot see them. Daughter no. 2 is still very upset ...

Thats odd...I swung by my local Wal Mart today too. Went to buy another AR-15. Took my daughter with me, she said we should name this one "Dragon Slayer".
She is only five so she isnt shooting yet. I myself was about eight years old when my Dad bought me my first gun, a .410 shotgun. I still have it, along with all of the fond memories of my Dad and I out hunting together, him teaching me how to shoot, handle, as well as clean and maintain the weapon.
My daughter knows not to ever touch any of Daddys weapons. Not that she could anyway, as I have all of them under lock and key.
I had to explain to her today about what had happened.
She asked a lot of questions, and I answered as best I could. She started Kindergarten last year, and is now worried about going back to school. As are my wife and I.
She also told me that she felt safe with me and her Mamma. Especially knowing that Daddy has the tools and the talent to protect her. Thats why she named our new rifle what she did.

I bought the AR for her. She can have it when she gets older.
After I teach her everything she needs to know.
This isnt a safe world, you see. There are monsters out there.
Thats what Dragon Slayers are for.

If there were no bad people in the world, if evil didnt truly exist. Then I would have no need for a gun. The only reason I have them is for the protection of my life, and the lives of my family.

How would things have turned out differently had every teacher been armed and trained. I am sure the monster would have still killed some. But if even one life could have been saved. It would have been more than worth it.

I, too, have been hearing since Friday morning that Adam Lanza had a Bushmaster "in" the "trunk of his car" and used the Glock and the Sig Sauer to shoot those people.

However, on the news tonight, they clearly stated that Lanza used the Bushmaster for the killing spree, and only used one of his sidearms once, to shoot himself.

So my guess is that the earlier (probably true) version of the event where he did NOT use the Bushmaster at all did not jive with their plans to eliminate semi-automatic weapons. After all, if he only used the two handguns, why get rid of the AKs? So now they have changed the story line.
