Or... do they simply want to see all GOOD Americans disarmed in a similar fashion, as happened to THEM? It sure is obvious what the answer to that question is.

Aussies never had a problem with an armed America, until THEY were stripped of (most) of the their own gun rights.

Jealousy is often a prime motivator of hatred. And what I see ion this forum isn't "love and concern" for the victims of gun crime. I see mostly a sheer and utter hatred of those who believe in the 2nd amendment.

Ask yourself this...

If someone who HATES you, wants to see you disarmed, do you really think it's a good idea to follow THEIR "logic", or consider THEIR line of "reasoning"?

Maybe it is because Aussies are stupid naturally, maybe?

Or maybe Aussies simply look at things different than us?

Could be.

Ultimately I blame it all on the Labor (Green) Party.

Socialists pervert scumbags. They have ruined the country. Also the Liberal Party, in a lesser way.

If you ban the right of people to own even assault weapons-------who's to say ALL weapons would not be banned? Slippery slope.

Maybe there should be a background check and immediate psychological testing for those that apply for an assault weapon. Make them prove they can take the responsibility and care of owning that kind of weapon. A compromise, really.

Unless you want ALL weapons banned. Sorry, no can do. Will never happen.

Re: Do the Aussies on this forum really CARE about "gun violence" in America... Or...
Australia, being a second world country, is at a severe disadvantage in understanding the American psyche.

It is difficult for Americans to understand the situation simply because most do not realize how important the United States is to the rest of the planet. Americans are essentially damned for thinking that the world revolves around them. Then, for example, something completely domestic happens with no involvement whatsoever by foreign powers or individuals. At that point, the rest of the world proves them right by focusing on purely domestic American news, as usual.

The same phenomenon occurs with presidential elections. Many Americans could not name the political executive leader of Australia or many other countries. This is interpreted as ignorance when in fact the answer is much simpler: Americans simply do not care who your leaders are. You are not that important.

On the other hand, most foreign nationals could easily name the U.S. political executive leader, name the title of the office (president), give an opinion on who should be elected, and give opinion on U.S. law.

It is very interesting to see how important America actually is to the rest of the world. If the U.S. was not particularly important, no one would pay attention to international aspects... much less domestic ones.

It is the only country where many foreign nationals believe they should have a say in regards to laws or leaders. In fact, many believe they should have the right to vote in American elections.

No one really thinks this way in regards to China, Russia, the U.K., or Germany (Australia simply is not in the same league and does not deserve a mention). America is a singular, special case. Americans are constantly reminded of their preeminence by the rest of the world, yet the rest of the world seems shocked when Americans act like it.

The majority of mass killings there, are done with military style assult rifles.

When society is in a state of inbalance..like it is now.

Why would you let people get these guns freely?

It's just plain stupidity.

You still can buy guns...but not high powered ones.

This thing about protecting one self from the military or tptb...like some have stated is total bullshit.

That's never going to happen.

Does any American think there forefathers envisaged the range of weapons available today when they drafted the constitution I think not and let us also remember that they were written at a time that was far different than today. I imagine that at the time citizens were seen as key to defending the nations sovereignty and hence thought it was diligent to have an armed population.

If America considers itself to be the greatest democracy on earth then let the people decide what is appropriate for the times and get over a document that was written so long ago. I think it is pertinent in life and business to review your practices at regular intervals and any business that does not change with the times will go broke! Sound familiar.

Fair enough.

I make that assessment based on the standard model where a country that depends heavily on the export of natural resources and relies on others for defence of the export economy can only be a maximum of "second world".

It was not meant to be specifically negative as the major cities in Australia are quite modern and well developed.

You are obviously correct in seeing Australia as a crossroads.

It is unfortunate as to the ultimate fate of Australia, in particular as part of the Commonwealth, but things must be done for the greater good.

Best of luck.

Some nations, like China, Russia, or America, are destined to be the Alphas.

Some are not.

Each nation has its own national identity to achieve Alpha status. Others have a national identity that are trying. Finally, there are those that are happy where they are.

It is because of this that Australia, unfortunately, will lose its western protection "blanket".

Best of luck.

I can't believe they gave up their guns over there. Isn't just about every creature in Australia fucking deadly? Even kangaroos can disembowel you and beat you to death while you bleed out. I sure as hell would want to be armed.

If I was australian I would buy a 3D printer and look into making my own wikiweapons. They may only last for 10 shots or so but that's enough to stop the dingos from eating your babies.

I care in a way.

I think everyone has a right to hold a weapon but when things like the Newtown case happen. I think differently. The Newtown Incident has so many similarities with our Martin Bryant case it's not funny. I recommend you look into port arthur and martin bryant a little more. You will see our government had an agenda with weapons very similiar to what your government is trying to do atm.

I also see what the US government want, and that is that they don't want people with weapons being able to defend themselves. When the time comes.

It's devastating to see stuff like that over here. But something needs to be done. Whether its gun control or the complete taking of assault weapons

We didn't surrender our guns, we disposed of something a majority of Australia doesn't want or need.

Fortunately for the long range plans, the end result is the same.

Obviously gun violence is bad, but banning guns will simply ensure that those who can't get a gun (assuming they can't get one legally, if they truly want one, and let's face it these types of people who truly wish you harm will get the gun illegally) that wish to do harm will simply switch to the next easiest killing device: A BOMB. Which will kill more people.

How about: stop drugging the kids? Feed them healthy food? Treat them better? Emotional support? Not poisoning the population in general? How about putting money/support in to creating healthy, rational human beings that DON'T WANT TO GO ON KILLING SPREES? Why is our society so obsessed with covering up symptoms/cleaning up AFTER the mess rather than preventing bad stuff?

Re: Do the Aussies on this forum really CARE about "gun violence" in America... Or...
I can only speak for myself. I have never had a gun and don't like them.

I see little point in disarming people. Only the law abiding will give up their guns and the criminals don't care what laws are brought in, they ignore them. So the criminals will still have guns. Criminals here still have guns. I think it does affect how the police treat you. They are not so worried if they pull you over, that you may have a gun, so I think American polce are probably affected by that.

Your country is a bit different than others. I can see that people could uprise over there, in which case the ordinary people would be better off armed, as it may make the government think twice, and hopefully do something responsible to stop people from needing to.

I think your government involved in 9/11 or not, have a lot to answer for. That their own people trust them so little, that they would even consider that, proves the government should be acting very different.

I don't like the government here either, but I would never believe they would kill a few thousand of us. Find any reason to take our money, slowly poison us via floride, etc etc etc yes! but I don't think they would ever consider doing anything like 9/11. Not saying your government did either. Just saying the fact so many believe they did, or might have, is a massive red flag to me.

I do care about what just happened and you have no idea how much we cared about 9/11. I am still not over it, so don't know how Americans must feel.

I hope I haven't rambled on too long but I wanted to give you an idea of how I feel. Not jealous and yes I do care - but not about your gun laws. That is a matter for Americans to decide on. As for me, I don't think banning guns would make much difference, normal law abiding citizens are not killing people as far as I know.

I agree, we all have seen crocodile Dundee. We know how criminals in the Aussie territory are. But, as long as there is black tribal people, crocodiles, rifles and large beer drinking Aussies I think you guys will be able to overthrow crime. Sometimes I envy you're country.

1rof1Bold bit. I have seen some American Hero's in movies.

Please don't spend a second envying us. We were the luckiest country in the world, Few laws, easy going and work was a fun place to be.

It has all changed now. Still good compared to a lot other places but not at all like it was.

Australians are tinged with sadness to see what US has become because we know Americans are great people. It takes great leadership from your leaders now to make the right decisions not the popular ones. I am a father of two one goes to elementary school the other pre school. I can safely say I have never thought at any time that they could be harmed by another mental disturbed person. We live in a relatively safe country where it is extremely difficult to obtain weapons. So when Australians are telling a Americans you must start to have gun control we do so wanting the US to be great country again a beacon for what's good in the world. Not this I'm right winged your left winged rubbish that gets your country nowhere. Enough is enough don't let these children die in vain have a look at yourselves and ask are having more guns going to make me feel safer?
