We encounter sociopaths much more than you can imagine... 1 in 24 people are sociopaths. A really good book to read is, "the sociopath next door"..... And also, "the gift of fear"

..if you meet someone new and they give you a bunch of sob stories, pity me crap, & crocodile tears... That's a tell tale sign of a sociopath. Run for the hills. They will most likely be the most charming person you've ever met and you two will have absolutely everything in common.

Met a really good one a while ago.
A woman who had nowhere to stay because her rent had run out,the landlord was insistent she leave, and she suffered from Alzheimers, and her welfare money hadn't come through.
As this was during our EQ chaos I found her a place to stay and lent her money.
She did the same kind of art I do-but the only evidence I could find was an old website with a faulty link.
I got very suspicious in a hurry.
She stayed at people's homes, borrowing more money against her disability pension.
An old friend who had known her for years informed me that she'd had various ailments for three decades and had "borrowed" a huge amount of money.
She was expert-well crafted cover story, and had obviously researched her diseases.
When I outed her she became enraged.

I think there is a difference between a thief and a liar, and a sociopath.
