The ancient Mayan Ballgame , Did the best players take psilocybin mushrooms before a game ?
I've become suddenly curious about this Ball Game officially rerefered to as the Meoamerican Ball game. There seems to be atleast two versions that were played by the the Myans , if not more.  One of many things  I find fascinating about this is the fact that they had what sounds like professional equipment for these games such as pads , helmets ect. I also find it interesting that the stadiums where very princely made with stones , stones carry energy and there was a lot of ritual involved in these games. If you have done any research on crowds & people and energy, like at a rock concert or football game, and how the elite have devised ways to manipulate our energy with these frequencies and energies which we are not aware of. So with that in mind , I wonder what the result of "energy" was at these games when you take into consideration , the sacrafice factor and how heightened the energy of the crowds but mostly the players with such high stakes involved.  I happen to be very intrigued by psilocybin mushrooms because of certain experiences I've had myself which led me to further research the subject. It's kind of weird because I've been thinking and looking into this Mayan Ballgame for a few hours and while doing that I happened to be listening to the tv in the backround with a documentary from national geographic about cannabis and for some reason there is a segment in this epsisode about the Mayan Ballgame and how some researchers believe that some players where said to have taken psilocybin mushrooms before playing in the "big game". They claim that if you "master" the plant , that it can heighten all your senses.  I've had acouple of bad trips but I also had acouple that I would describe more along the lines of ," all my senses seemed to be heightened."

The Mayans were great sportsmen and build huge ballcourts to play their games. The Great Ballcourt of Chichén Itzá is 545 feet long and 225 feet wide overall. It has no vault, no discontinuity between the walls and is totally open to the sky.

Each end has a raised "temple" area. A whisper from end can be heard clearly at the other end 500 feet away and through the length and breath of the court. The sound waves are unaffected by wind direction or time of day/night. Archaeologists engaged in the reconstruction noted that the sound transmission became stronger and clearer as they proceeded.

Legends say that the the winning captain would present his head to the losing capitan, who then decapitates him. While this may seem a strange reward, the Mayans believed this to be the ultimate honor. The winning captian getting a direct ticket to heaven instead of going through the 13 steps that the Mayan's believed they had to go through in order to reach heaven..

The sacred Ball Court was the site of a brutal Mayan sport. The field, approximately the size of a football field, is bordered by two imposing walls 26 feet tall. Seven combatants on each team tried to get a small rubber ball to go through a small stone hoop 23 feet above the ground  supposedly without using their hands or feet to touch the ball. Virtually all descriptions of the native Mexican ballgames stress that hands were not allowed to touch the ball. Yet two 8th century Maya sculptures and several Peten Maya vases show players with their hands on the ball.It is believed that the losers of this game were often sacraficed to the Gods. These Mayan games predate the olympics by about 500 years!

The games played in the ballcourt were sometimes played to the death.

The Maya central city area was built for religous reasons. Almost every Mayan city had a ballcourt to play the ball game Pok-A-Tok. Pok-A-Tok games were often played as parts of religous ceremonies. Besides this large court, Chichen-Itza has 22 other courts, testimony to the importance of this (blood) sport.

Serious injury could be inflicted on a player with the hard ball which was mainly struckwith the elbows, knees or hips, but was not to be hit with the hands, feet or calves. Playerswere known to throw themselves on the ground to hit the ball properly. The full impact of the ball was in this case absorbed by the body. Participants wore equipment for protection, including chin pieces and half masks for cheeks, hard leather gloves, quilted cotton elbowpads, knee pads, belts or yokes made of leather or basketry for the waist a protruding palmate stone, and a leather apron

                    MUSHROOMS AND THE BALLGAME

Pottery mushrooms dating to the middle or late Pre-Classic period have been found with  figurines of ballplayers at the archaeological sites of Tlatilco in Burial 154 (Trench 6), and at Tlapacoya in the Valley of Mexico ( Borhegyi 1980.).   A pottery mushroom (close up photo at right) was found near the figurine of an acrobat suggesting that  mushrooms may have been consumed to induce the super-heroic athletic ability and agility of a jaguar god or were-jaguar.  It might be important to note that the pose might represent an East Indian or Hindu yoga posture or a version of the “Dhanur Asan” “Vrischika Asan” which is an advanced yoga posture for people doing “Sheersh Asan”.  Pottery shaped mushrooms representing both the Amanita and Psilocybin mushrooms (Psilocybe mexicana), were likely used in bloodletting rituals. This blood-letting rituals were likely carried out after the consumption of Soma the sacred mushrooms consumed before the ballgame and before the ritual of decapitation.
Pre-Columbian pottery shaped mushrooms are reported to have been found in Mexico in the states of Chiapas, Tabasco, and Veracruzand in El Salvador, and Guatemala in both the highlands and the lowland Maya rain forest. For more on pottery mushrooms see Borhegyi de, S.F., 1963, “Pre-Columbian pottery mushrooms from Mesoamerica”,  in American Antiquity, vol. 28:328-338.

Yes tell it as it was, killing for blood lust, just like the Romans DID,NO MERCY IN THE BALL GAME OF THE MAYANS IF THEY CAME ACROSS YOUR TRIBE ALL MEN PLAYED BALL GAME OF DEATH AND WOMAN TAKEN AND SOLD AS SLAVES AND CHILDREN KILLED.

Sorry if the truth hurts, but hide nothing it was a way of life only one ruling mayan race, untill they got what came there way and wiped them out and what was left moved away from area, and what did the mayans in was bacteria more than likly Salmonella etc.

That is what did them in
