You are a retard, Its called shock and extreme stress. Have you never heard of soldiers laughing their ass off while they lay on the ground with blown off limbs? You ever been in a real stressful situation? And by that I don't mean like trying to sing a song to your grandparents, I mean like serious stress where your survival instinct kicks in. You don't function like you do normally when extreme stress kicks in. You become an entire different animal all together.

For the sake of argument, let's say that you are correct. This one man, the father of Emilie Parker, is truly upset yet manages to smile.

That DOES NOT EXPLAIN ALL the other "grieving family members" who are NOT REALLY CRYING! Not a SINGLE ONE that I have seen. All I have seen are heads bent downward, faces turned upward, grimaces, and faces covered by hands. Not a SINGLE TEAR on ANY of the "grieving family members" faces.

So, even if we give this ONE GUY a pass, that DOES NOT EXPLAIN this eventwide phenomenon! WHAT ARE THE ODDS that NONE of them react with real tears?!

This is a THEATRICAL PRODUCTION, just like the Aurora shooting. That's the only thing that makes sense.
 Quoting: Hahahahhaa 28872856

Amen!

By the way... Have you seen the report of parents in a hurry going to the school, one of them banged on a car and showed a thumbs up to somebody? I'll try to find it...
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6568391

I saw that... Brunette woman with a brown coat on. Running after what looked like the parents. Maybe she was a relative. There's just something a bit odd with the entire story. Even the medical examiner was strange! Did you see him?? Narcissistic madman with zero emotion... He was making jokes and laughing. He had just examined the children! HUH??

I know it's his job, but these people are insane!

Is there something in the water up there in Connecticut? Maybe I'm the alien for not being able to even compose a proper paragraph on camera talking about one or all of these people, let alone being the parent or medical examiner.... I would need a minute at least! I feel like I've cried more than them... Even the librarian lady in glasses was cold and WEIRD! No emotion... Almost like sociopaths....
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 12164461

Yes! The same one! The coroner was way too happy regarding the news he was sharing....

Let me tell you something... This is what I'LL do, someone else will react differently, but if a child of mine dies I'll die right after it. I'll not wait even 10 minutes. Why to live?!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6568391

I used to work for a county medical examiner.

The Medical Examiner gets a pass. His profession REQUIRES composure. Does that mean that he's not acting too? Absolutely not!

This poor child hasn't even been buried yet and it looks like they're already talking to an agent, gelling up the hair, pulling out the suit, trademarking Emilie Parker's name, collecting serious cash, and breaking free from the respectful pact that should be all the families united to branch out and BE THE FIRST person on the money buffet...

Lord have mercy if all the steak is gone by Monday!

They have first dibs on this global tragedy. Brilliantly disgusting.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 12164461

What happens when any family member dies?

Right away, you have to plan the funeral, burial / cremation, wake if you have one, etc.

You have a few hours of grieving and then it's down to business. That's how it was for me when my parents died, I imagine that's how it is for everyone.

The Sandy Hook parents are in an unusual situation because, rather than having to figure out what to do with the body, they do not yet even have access to the body. But I guess they have to plan funerals too, just with a delay.

I'm not saying this is not a staged event, there are certainly signs enough. But it could also be real. The first thing you have to do when a family member dies is business, then grieving.

A man who yeah looks like he lifts weights is wearing a suit a new suit that is fitted with shoulder pads. Your child is killed and you go out and buy a fitted suit, really. you child is in a public school and you buy a suit worth several $100s.. what's with that. Gosh public school cos you cant afford private school fee's and yet your suit cost you how much.. yeah death we all try and dress nice, but do we go out and buy a suit NO. Why was it a blond blue eyed...

his suit was tailored made that takes time you don't just walk in to a shop and buy a suit when you know no suit will fit and you need one made for you at short notice.

I said the same thing when I saw this....

Something is just NOT right here....

He's in a suit, gelled hair, alone without his wife or any other parent.... Not one tear. Incredibly composed and joking how his daughter was a picky eater. Not a time for jokes!

But the real weird part is how he conveniently mentions the Facebook FUND raiser page... "Funds for Emilie"

Who the FUCK does that?!

Who goes against all these other parents, without his wife, etc. to be the FIRST to jump on the donation band wagon that he is sure is coming.

Brilliantly sick I tell you... I told my husband as we watched this... I didn't want to think that way, but it was clear...

He jumped on that stage before anyone else with his donation, Facebook page to catch all the money before it's split between 30 families.

I think it's gross....

The sobbing mother at home grief stricken and sick in bed isn't getting a cut of the big donations! She better get out her best dress to keep up! Gross.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 12164461

I agree with this. Asking for donations was way out of line. The photos of Emilie were very sweet, but not casual photos. Her name was elegantly written below her pretty face in calligraphy lettering. I guess that was taken from the facebook page.
 Quoting: allisaTX

That professional photo of Emilie has now become "the face of the tragedy." I have seen it plastered front and center on SEVERAL news websites. Ugh!!

Calling somebody a shill because he points out that the father of a murdered kid is not laughing but is actually in shock. If you don't agree with me that is perfectly fine and I don't even need a good reason but just putting down the shill logo, goddamn, its the worst of ad homs there is.

Why do they need the money? Dad works at a hospital and brings in $100k a year. They have money. There are no medical bills because the girl is dead. This is just so weird.
 Quoting: AmericanInfidel

Emilie's mom is Alissa Cottle Parker. Her 62 year old dad, Dr. Douglas Cottle, a dentist, died from injuries sustained while participating in a bike race in September.

This article says donations to the "Emilie Parker Fund" will go to the Cottle and Parker families.

And the DENTIST didn't have a life insurance policy to take care of his family? It probably had an ACCIDENTAL DEATH clause too!!!

You have to be nonemotional, but you also have to know what you're talking about.

I am projecting, because that is how I empathize. With everything. How else could I do it, in any situation in life?

And so, maybe that's the window that actors exploit. Or maybe that's what fools some into thinking genuine reactions are staged. Maybe it is impossible to separate the two.

Let's separate two theories though:
(1) that this family is more money-grubbing than the other families who lost children and is jumping to the head of the fundraising line, vs.
(2) the grief is entirely or partially manufactured and there's some big alternate story we are not being told.

I am willing to believe (1) fairly easily. That does not imply (2) at all.

Obama didn't even give a shit. Fake tears, voice cold and controlled, didn't even say the town name right. That speech was just a five minute stage appearance for him.

But I think it's a rare actor who could fake the voice here without the real grief experience this man is going through.

I, too, have gone through something similar so I know where he's at....no amount of words, encouragement, consolation will work with these people...not now....they have to process this...THEY have to go home to an empty room..an empty dinner plate...all the reminders..its a living hell....those of you that understand..really may God bless you...those of you that don't...rot in the pit.
