To the families and friends of all of the victims, it is about more than the politics of a historical document; it’s about guaranteeing that this never happens to anyone else’s children.

Barack Obama is in his second and final term. He is not facing re-election. He is not facing the prospect of being voted back in or out. Politically, he has nothing whatsoever to lose by doing what must be done.

 Quoting: The Tauremini

What do you want to bet that the author of this piece to ban guns to "Save the Children" also believes in free taxpayer funded unfettered abortion in every hospital district as well...

Just sayin...

This is not about those children anymore, they are being exploited for a political agenda...

Apparently you don't have hunting there, that is why I own most of my guns, but the 12 gauge can send someone back out the door if need be. You sound like someone in their 20s that hasn't faced the realities of life yet,and probably have never seen death up close, you just keep living in your little dream world.

Re: Why gun control is bigger than the Second Amendment
Gun control does not mean no more guns. It just means it would be harder for nut jobs to acquire a gun. It means courses, accreditations, permits.

It means stop behaving like fucking paranoid cowboys.

Its OK to have a shotgun or rifle hanging on the back window of your truck if you live on a ranch near a city of 85, you cant expect help to be 2 minutes away. But if you live in a major city, you shouldn't be able the carry, at all. If your moving your weapons, its unloaded and trigger locked in your trunk. At home, its locked in a safe, and dont give the combo to your kids.

You have the right to protect your home, i understand and concede that point. But in a city, its not your fucking job to protect everyone and everything, even yourself, its the police job. Same as the good old far-west days when they had to drop their guns at the sheriff when they got into town.

Do yourself a favor and go read a book. Then youll understand how the NRA with the help of tragedies and lobbying transformed the 2nd amendment into a big business for the gun industry. Maybe then you'll see whats its all really about... as usual... MONEY.

So stop freaking out, THEY're not coming for your guns anytime soon. Maybe you'll have to pass a test to prove your not a fucking moran with mommy issues, thats pretty much it, like for driving a car.

Calm down y'all.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 18700349

WRONG ! Take your own advise and go read a book... a law book...

THE COPS HAVE NO DUTY TO PROTECT YOU

PUBLIC DUTY DOCTRINE
[link to definitions.uslegal.com]

Public duty doctrine is a principle of personal injury law that government owes duties to the public at large rather than individuals. In general, this doctrine provides that a governmental entity can be held liable only when the duty breached was owed to the injured person as an individual and was not merely the breach of an obligation owed to the public at large. Governmental duty to protect its citizens is a general duty to the public as a whole. When there is only a general duty to protect the public, there is no duty of care to an individual citizen which may result in liability. In short a duty to all is a duty to no one.

[link to www.duhaime.org]

In Eklund, the Montana Supreme Court held:

"The public duty doctrine provides that a governmental entity cannot be held liable for an individual plaintiff's injury resulting from a governmental officer's breach of a duty owed to the general public rather than to the individual plaintiff."

It took police 10 minutes to get to Sandy Hook.

10 long minutes.

1 Armed person inside the school could have been at the classroom in 2 minutes unless he happened to be patrolling that hallway that instant.

Criminals don't obey laws. They will steal weapons and commit crimes regardless of the laws.

You can ban every gun on the planet and it won't stop a criminal hell bent on this type of crime.

You have to take the son of a bitch out once he begins to act.

Taking away my guns isn't going to stop a criminal. It's just going to unarm me and make me wait 10 minutes for a cop that may or may not come. I'm not waiting nor am I going to become a victim.

I never started a fight. I just said that guns are for people who are afraid of everything. It gives them a false feeling of security. If you have no fear, a gun is not something mandatory.

I could crack a home intruder skulls open with a baseball bat. Home intruders don't even have guns here.

Re: Why gun control is bigger than the Second Amendment
People need to understand and take heed: As goes the Second Amendment, so goes all other Constitutional Rights.

Any restriction, limitation or outright nullification of the Second Amendment will serve as precedent, and pretense, for restricting, limiting and nullifying all other rights.

There is nothing in the Constitution that makes one right greater or lesser than the other. Thus, the same "argument" used to restrict one right can be employed for the restriction of all others.

People need to realize that precedent set involving any one right in the bill of Rights can and will be used by those in power with respect to all other rights.

People don't need guns, so let's restrict their ownership. Well, people don't "need" the internet either. I mean, you have phones (some of them free), can get your news from television, etc. And really, if people have nothing to hide, they should have no problem with a routine health and welfare search of their homes. For the public good of course.

We are witnessing the debate to open Pandora's box. And we are being conditioned to accept more and more government control of and intrusion into our lives. Twenty years ago, did anyone dream they would have to submit to a "strip search" before being allowed to fly on an airplane?

Re: Why gun control is bigger than the Second Amendment
I don't see how they are mutually exclusive. You can have gun control and still have all the rights to the guns. Nowhere in teh constitution does it say it has to be easy to own a gun. In some states its easier for an 18 year old to buy a gun then to buy a six pack of beer.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1516308

Wrong. It says that the Right to keep and bear arms will not be INFRINGED. There are no qualifications.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 29995664

Great, then we'll only allow weapons of the type that existed when the Bill of Rights was ratified. There is no valid reason for owning an automatic assault rifle.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 17152779

Its uneducated tards like you that push misinformation. It was NOT an automatic weapon. It was SEMI automatic..one trigger pull, one bullet fired. No less dangerous then a revolver FFS.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 10404177

All it takes to make a semi automatic assault rifle shoot almost on par with an automatic is a slide stock and knowing how to bump fire.

I'm pretty sure you cant do that with a revolver. And I'm pretty sure a semi automatic rifle clip can carry 30 bullets as opposed to 6 in a revolver. So, it's reasonable to say a semi automatic assault style rifle is more dangerous than a revolver (in terms of being able to kill multiple people quickly)
