When you have one cop in town whom you might or might not be able to catch on duty? Then, you have to wait for 1/2 hour for him to get to your place if you do catch him - or even longer if he is helping somebody else out. Meanwhile, you've lost thousands of dollars of livestock. Or, the dogs have killed your child who gets off the school bus. Or, that rabid skunk bites an animal on your place. No, there are reasons to have an old 22 at the house.

That is your fault for choosing a rural lifestyle. If you lived in a city where everything is properly organized, you do not have rabid skunks or wild dogs. Farming needs to be as efficient as possible and all these little homesteads stop the land being collectivized in an efficient manner. When it is done this way, it is a simple matter to organize a small armed cadre to see to these problems for everyone.

I wish it was as easy to get guns in the Netherlands as in the USA.

The government exists for all of our benefits. It is their job to take care of an manage all those things the individual can not. If the government sanctions something it is because it is calculated to be in the better interests of the larger number of people.

And what to do about the 300 million guns estimated to be in the US. Confiscate them? Who will do that and at what cost. Who will prevent a huge black market from arising? The feds?
