Flooding Alert for West Coast BC. Lower Mainland.
Flooding alert has been issued for Flooding all the way into Delta. A storm surge with waves up to or over 3 meters is expected in the area Sunday. Monday. Tuesday. First they called it high tide King Tide. Now they are calling it Storm Surge. Ocean Specialist said the waves could even be higher with the storm surge. All things being considered the wall of water could surge up to 15 feet.

Area crews are sandbagging everywhere and closeing all beach access points. Residence can also get sandbags if in effected area's. River Delta's and Drainage area's.

There sure has been alot of KING TIDES and High Tides and Storm Surges without the storms to really accompany them.

See how fast as this drains.

These high tides and storm surges are going on everywhere. There is a storm rolling in but places all over have had these King Tides and Storm Surges. California. Florida. Hawaii. Pakistan. Veitnam. Cambodia. and on and on the list grows.

In live in Southwestern BC and the Snow finally arrived and now won't quit. I have had a foot accumulate in the last 3 days where I am at. Snowed 2 more inches overnight and were supposed to get another 5-6 inches in the next 24-36hrs.

The snow will make the Ski Hill behind me happy as there has been no snow up till now only alot of unseasonal rain and warmer weather. They should have opened in early November but couldn't. I guess they will get a few runs going now. ( SilverStar )

I'm surprised we aren't flooded daily with the amount of rain we receive up here. A little water isn't going to hurt us.

OP, can you give us a source for this information? (Coquitlam here)

Re: Flooding Alert for West Coast BC. Lower Mainland.
I used to live in Vic- back in 1994/95 snow, instead of rain fell- brought the region to a halt- lotta damage- structures (roofs) not build for heavy snow loads, etc. I've often thought if all that rain was snow, the place would be literally buried- in 10's of feet.
These surges concern me- I still have family there, and even if I didn't-
In the middle of the country now- raining, above zero- no snow to speak of... in other words, we're experiencing something closer to west coast winter climate, and for the last 2 years. 'Unprecedented' is the word being thrown about (although that just means in current record keeping).
Be safe OP, and thanks.

poleshiftning has been tooting the flood horn for a long time now. flood incidents are starting to hit more frequently in areas that get more news coverage than say thailand, where it has been going on badly for some time.

don't forget to keep an eye on the atmospheric rivers. west coast.

one week timeline google search:

After a series of rainstorms drenched northern California in late November and early December 2012, sediment-laden water was coursing down the Eel River toward the Pacific Ocean. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite acquired this natural-color image on December 9, 2012.

Re: Flooding Alert for West Coast BC. Lower Mainland.
An atmospheric river is more than twice the size of an average Pacific storm, said Dettinger. "If you sort of throw all the other storms together and figure out what the average amount of water that comes out of them is, the atmospheric river on average is about 85 percent larger."
