It's NOT the guns! It's the VIDEO GAMES FFS!
New York Times:

Check out the latest video game titles and themes in the New York Times. They send out an e-mail news teaster and right below the shooting story is an advertisement for "Assasins" etc. Anybody actually think these things don't contribute to this atmosphere of violence is an idiot. These are the things that need banning!

You're dead wrong. I am writing a piece for our newspaper right now about this very issue. Here is the real problem with american society. And we are exporting this to the whole world.

over the past 50 or so years, americans have isolated themselves in their homes and in their hearts. We have slowly been introducing our young minds to more and more extreme violence.. It started in the movie theaters and moved into our TV's. It started in the music in the 90's with gangbanger shit talking about cop killers and ho's. Then it moved into the video games.

by 2010 our children our inundated with violence.. There children shows are all about snappy comebacks and disrespect. Their is not a single example of love for others shown to them - ANYWHERE! They learn to think only of themselves.

oddly, the nature of children is to care and to share, but their fucked up parents break them of this before they are teenagers.. So a child sees how his parents care only about facebook and their own shit and the child conforms to this.

by the time that child is an adult he doesn't care about you, me or anyone but himself. He truly doesn't care!

let me ask you, do you care at all for a passerby on the street? Do you care at all for the kid behind the register? Do you care at all about the guy in the car to your left? Do you care at alll about the woman in the office down the hall?.

and yet, when a tragedy like this happens all of the sudden we all care. Bullshit! What are your actions going to be? Are you going to write a letter to the families? Will you send flowers? Will you shed a tear? Fuck no! Because deep down in your dead cold heart you DON'T CARE. . And your pride keeps you from even accepting that I am correct and have revealed your true selfish nature.

this is root of the problem! Loveless people are raising loveless kids and have been for decades now. And when those kids snap we all act astonished. Fuck! The guy just did what he had been programmed to do since childhood.. It was in his music, his video games, his tv shows and the movies he watched.

if we don't fix our hearts and start opening up our lives to others we're a doomed society.

It is shallow thinking that creates the video games, the guns and the violence. Depth of thought is a nice sentiment but impossible in this atmosphere. Clean up the joint and then think deeply perhaps.

There were no shootings like this. Taking the extreme to prove a point are you? Video games, music videos, etc... it's all violence. They weren't shooting people on game consoles all day in the 70s dear. There are none so blind as those who will not see.

We'll never get anybody addicted to video games to admit that they might be the problem. There were bad parents in the 70s too but there were no shootings like this. Mix in mental health issues with violent video games and you're asking for trouble. Trouble is there are too many people now who don't remember what life was like before this violence so they defend it vehemently as if it was a right. It's not a right, it's an abomination. Playing these violent games for hours on end is inevitably going to f*ck up your brain. You just don't realize it.

It's people living a life with no goals or outlook, blaming society for their failures.

It's the let's go out with a blast and make the headlines mentality.

I'll be gone but I'm not going alone and everybody must know.

That's what this is.

Guns have been around before the US was founded.
Humans have always been violent creatures.
These acts of violence however are very random outings of hatred and frustration from a social failure against a society.

Well the indefensible should have weapons, your county is builded on weapons. If you ban weapons in your country, you will see allot of more these shootings.

And about those video games, sure a constant stream of violence is not good for a person. but dont blame it on video games. Blame allot more factors. And well blame this society to.

Blame the education system
Blae the bankers
Blame the corporations.
Bame the parents.

agreed. Video games teach kids how to disassociate a human. It causes their mind to create a break between what is right and what is wrong. It is ok to kill a computer generated image that looks like a person.. And in doing so a break occurs which prevents feelings from getting involved. You can kill and kill and there are no emotions involved. You simply turned them off.

in the real world the person simply needs to enter this state of mind. The disconnect occurs and the person becomes an emotionless killer. Why do you think the military recruits these kids to fly drones? Because it is emotionless killing. The military loves video games. They teach you how to forget emotions, how to turn them off. This is then used on the battlefield.

to say that video games don't contribute is ridiculous. Our very government proves that they do through their use of them.

now, add in a broken mind. And you have a massacre in the making.

Re: It's NOT the guns! It's the VIDEO GAMES FFS!
Here's a nice selection from that New York Times article on new video games:

HITMAN

Absolution

Released on Nov. 20

Rated M for Mature (intense violence, partial nudity and strong language)

It’s a vile, dangerous world in Hitman: Absolution. Nearly everyone is in need of a good killing, and Agent 47, the depilated murder machine at the center of the long-running Hitman franchise, is just the man for the job.

Absolution is consistent with the setup of past Hitman games: At the start of a level, 47 is given an assassination target, and he must make his way through semi-open areas by any of a number of possible routes. The reactive artificial intelligence keeps things enjoyably unpredictable, and the best levels feel like a buffet of sadistic improvisation.

The story is pure B-movie hogwash. It’s mostly enjoyable in a certain exploitive way, but it often feels as if the writers were trying too hard.

When it gets cooking, Hitman: Absolution evokes the feeling of a deadly, measured dance. It’s a tango between you and the computer, with each party alternately taking the lead through arenas that shift and upset expectations.

ASSASSIN’S CREED III

Released on Oct. 30

Rated M for Mature (blood, intense violence, sexual themes and strong language)

Assassin’s Creed III is really the fifth major Assassin’s Creed game.
The new game involves a lot of climbing and killing across a sprawling landscape of bustling cities and gorgeous frontier. Add in a mix of awkwardly instituted horseback riding, homestead building, trading, trapping, hunting and, at the wheel of your own tall-masted warship, epic naval combat. There is much to do and witness in a ripped-from-the-history-books adventure that is refreshingly unwilling to ignore the unsavory aspects of America’s birth. A lengthy production cycle didn’t spare the game from a wealth of bugs that are only now being patched out.

The series’s low-key multiplayer games of competitive assassination return, but the star of this epic is something that might seem almost quaint: Assassin’s Creed III is easily the best tree-climbing simulator in history.

PERSONA 4 GOLDEN

Released on Nov. 20

Developed and published by Atlus

For PlayStation Vita

Rated M for Mature (violence, alcohol reference and partial nudity)

If it was games, then hell why not take it one step further and ban all violent films any type of music that is made in the USA. Then proceed to make happy bunny fairy tale films/music/games. Lets not forget to make fluffy guns that make happy sounds.

Normal healthy kids understand the difference between right and wrong....good an evil....video game violence versus real life. naughty

....and then there are those who are autistic, or have Aspbergers ....or some other mental "screw loose" that cannot discern fiction from reality. They are sociopathic, psychopathic. Some may be benign mental issues...but all of them need to be looked at more closely.
Those kids are the lose cannons....not the normal healthy ones.

And who buys these violent games with clear rating on them saying 17+ for their 9 year old kids all the time? the parents. who are the ones to blame game developers marketing to an older audience or the Parents too occupied to pay attention to what they are buying and what TV shows they are allowing them to see. I agree TV, Movies, and video games are becoming much more violent and some having heavy propaganda or anti government content. Parents still have to take responsibility to what they let their kids watch and play and their are tons of little 9 year old's playing Call of duty because the Parents are bad.

Re: It's NOT the guns! It's the VIDEO GAMES FFS!
We have been taught to make our children self sufficient from toddlerhood.
We have interpreted it to "leave them on their own" to develop life skills.

It's not the TV and the video games that are problem, it is the lack of personal interaction during the developmental years.

Second problem is we have not taught children to accept failure or disappointment. Everyone is taught they are winner for first to tenth place.
When real-life failure as an adult eventually happens, there is no developed method to deal with it.
