Pope gives blessing to Ugandan ‘kill the gays’ lawmaker
Pope Benedict XVI has given his blessing to Rebecca Kadaga, Speaker of the Ugandan Parliament, who has promised to pass the country’s notorious anti-gay “kill the gays” bill as a “Christmas gift” to the Ugandan people.

Kadaga received the Pope’s blessing during a mass on Dec. 12, the same day Benedict launched his new Twitter account.

Last November Kadaga promised that the draconian anti-gay “kill the gays” bill would pass before the end of 2012, and would be a “Christmas gift” for Uganda’s Christian community.

The draconian and barbaric anti-gay law would impose a minimum sentence of life imprisonment to anyone “convicted” of having gay sex: life imprisonment to punish anything from "sexual stimulation to simply touching another person with the intention of committing the act of homosexuality.”

The "kill the gays" legislation would broaden the criminalization of same-sex relationships by dividing homosexuality into two categories; aggravated homosexuality and the offense of homosexuality. ‘Aggravated homosexuality’ is defined as gay acts committed by parents or authority figures, HIV-positive people, pedophiles and repeat offenders. The ‘offense of homosexuality’ includes same-sex sexual acts or being in a gay relationship.

Currently there are two versions of the bill being discussed, a stronger version that would include the death penalty, and a weaker version that would take the death penalty off the table, in favor of life imprisonment.

Kadaga was in Rome as the leader of a Ugandan delegation attending a conference on human rights. Oh, the irony.

It wouldn't be first time the pope sanctioned death. Given that it's the examiner, I can only take this with a grain of salt though.
