I Just Replaced a 35v 1000uf Capacitory in my Flat Screen With a 35v 300uf Capacitor & it works! & it dident Blow up in my Face.. i know this is wrong, but it works! i found the TV in the dump anyway, its a 40 inc... will i destroy it in the long run? does anyone know what kinda electronics i can salvage a 35v 1000uf capacitory from

kinda reminds me of that 3d cartoon robots... when all there spare part get scrapped & we just throw away our good stuff because we know nothing about it. well i do anyway, i got a 40 inc flat screen TV for free, because i have a bit of smarts i fixed it instead of throwing it in the garbage & wasting money on a new one.

yay!!

I fixed a batch of broken LCD monitors in work doing this. If a capacitor is blowing its usually an indication of a bigger problem somewhere else.

Most of them still work. One blew again a second time around, but it's much cheaper than buying a new monitor/ TV.

I messed with some capacitors a few years back.
Putting in one that doesn't have the "storage" of the original will cause clipping.

What kind of clipping depends on what part of the TV circuit that thing stores energy for.

That is most likely a filter cap......you can parallel 3 of them together for an almost electrically identical replacement.....

forgot to mention, the uf isn't so much of a problem if i remember correctly so long as the Voltage is ok.

definitly much cheaper, & you get to learn a little bit more about the crap most of us know nothing about, i love taking apart monitors, trying to see if there are any hidden cameras behind the screens yet, i know they exist, supposibly apple has the patent on the camera behind the screen!

wish i knew what the uf means, something to do with frequency? i would assume.. been studying energy bymyself for many years now, its good stuff to learn considering everythign in existance is energy & if you can learn to harness its power & use it for good purposes, we could be off the grid in no time. but most ppl just like to click buttons and apps and zone out.

You can order one on ebay for next to nothing.
Defective capacitors are not all that uncommon, with luck it will keep
working, but you probably want the right size cap.

good for you banana2

Go to radio shack with that broken one (was it bulging/burst ?) en get the proper replacement for 1 or 2 dollar

also ask for low ESR high quality.

As you obviously taken out the power supply unit and soldered a cap, do check al the other same type electrolitic radial capacitors if they are not broken (burst or swelling)
Replace these also !

Congrats, you've yust tackled 80% of bigscreen plasma's/LCD defects.

uf means micro farad,
and it is a measure of how much charge a capacitor

yeah i know ordering components is cheap, but i think salvaging old parts from old electronics is much funner, you get to learn alot, you recycle & save yourself alot of money instead of throwing it away.

was tempted to buy some capacitors online but i wanted to fix it without spending money.

i take old ghetto blasters & turn them into solar panel radio / cd players by salvaging solar panel garden lights, its that easy!

youd be surprised how big of a conspiracy electronics are. the way they monitor & track us. for many many years now. most ppl just throw angry birds around.

Get the right Cap out of a PC power supply that you don't use. you will need a soldering iron and some solder. Or go to Radio Shack.

What you did by going to a higher uF is give more storage capacity to the circuit in which it is in. If this capacitor keeps blowing you either need to raise the voltage of the capacitor to like 63 volts or check to see if the circuit has a diode in it which may be faulty because it is letting AC into the circuit. The problem with most consumer electronics is that they are designed to have a short life like 5 years and the way you do this as a electronic engineer is to put components in the circuit that are at the verge of there specs. Like a capacitor in a circuit that is 35volts but the circuit is running at 36volts this will slowly degrade the capacitor and it will eventually blow. If these company made circuits like they should a TV or a Radio would last almost forever. But than they wont be able to sell more units.

And the guy was right, you can parallel
caps of the same voltage rating to get
the right capacity,
but caps aren't that expensive.

uf means "micro-farads" (it's not really a "u" but a Greek "upsilon" which means "micro" or "one-millionth") and is a measurement of capacitance. Wiki says:

"A farad is the charge in ampere seconds which a capacitor will accept for the potential across it to change 1 volt."

ah memorie refresh! energy can be so complicated, volts, amps, resistance, farads, columbs, hertz,

my first thing ive built with components was a Rectifier Bridge, using 4 diodes, i converted Alternating Current to
Direct Current, Which was part of a wind generator i was making by scrapping an old printer for its, stepper motor, when spun by hand produces AC current, that runs into the bridge rectifyer and comes out as Direct current which can charge a Battery!

ive also charge REGULAR DURACELL Batteries, that are not chargable.. just by hooking them up to a 12V car batterie... (may explode) LOL but you can actually recharge a non rechargable batterie.

AC DC! done dirt Cheap!

even book stores dont carry many books, internet is almost the only place to learn about electronics...

Don't capacitors hold a charge sometimes? I think you need to ground them against the chassic or something to dissapate the charge. Otherwise you might be finding out what a taser does.

yeah u can charge up a capacitor and stick someone with it like a tazer, im not exactly sure what ratings would give you more amps, its the amps that really get you, suposibly you can die from being shocked with something like .08 of an amp can flutter your heart enough to kill you, i myself have been shocked good with 120v 15amp ac, feels real weird, but i survived!

It's not really a good idea to salvage old electrolytic capacitors from dated equipment unless you have a variac that can reform them properly provided they are in good shape.

lol its stupid to replace a 1000 micro farad electrolytic capacitance with 300 uf capacitance...

you should install same capacitance or you can go one tick higher like 1500 uf but never go lower...

for the voltage, you can use same or higher, it does not matter how much higher...

choosing higher voltage keeps your circuit more healthy, because when the capacitor has 25volts and it gets 28volts boom goes the dynamite.

when series of capacitors on a power board go bad, there is a high risk that the voltage regulator will also fail, its usually made of a zener diode and a transistor.

so check their voltages/ohms , you need take them out with a soldering gun and measure with a multimeter and if they are good then put them back.

and for the explosion thing, modern devices wont explodeat all, in tvs manifacturers use seramic fuses that also prevents fire.

ok this is all you need to know for now.

dont play with electricity, it`ll burn you so fast if you dont know what you are doing

and keep your hands away from big capacitors, some have 200 volts of voltage stored on them and when you open the case of the television that energy will be there for 20 minutes or so.

stay safe.

How the capacitor works in this situation is like this -

Imagine

An old fashioned hand water pump that squirts water each time you pull the handle. (The input voltage)

Underneath is a large bucket with a small hole in the bottom (The capacitor)

Once the bucket fills and you keep pumping up the water will flow out of the hole at a steady rate.

The bucket smooths out the flow of water.

Even when the supply is removed the water (power) will still flow out until the bucket is empty.

The larger the capacitance (capacity) the larger the bucket.
The voltage is related to the strength of the bucket and the input pressure it can withstand.

Caps, that are are that big, 1000 mics (1000 micro-farad) are typically used as a DC filter - sounds like a POWER SUPPLY filter actually?

1000 helps big spikes, 300 will help also - as you see. you might have more buzzing if an audio project.

Try hooking up an electrolytic cap backwards to a battery or power supply. Just be careful. Shrapnel everywhere! I used to drive my parents nuts blowing 'em up. Cheap caps blow quickest!!!explosion
