If a capacitor is blowing its usually an indication of a bigger problem somewhere else. Most of them still work. One blew again a second time around, but it's much cheaper than buying a new monitor/ TV. |

That is most likely a filter cap......you can parallel 3 of them together for an almost electrically identical replacement..... |

As you obviously taken out the power supply unit and soldered a cap, do check al the other same type electrolitic radial capacitors if they are not broken (burst or swelling) Replace these also ! Congrats, you've yust tackled 80% of bigscreen plasma's/LCD defects. TFD |

Quoting: Fred 29293291 Defective capacitors are not all that uncommon, with luck it will keep working, but you probably want the right size cap. yeah i know ordering components is cheap, but i think salvaging old parts from old electronics is much funner, you get to learn alot, you recycle & save yourself alot of money instead of throwing it away. was tempted to buy some capacitors online but i wanted to fix it without spending money. i take old ghetto blasters & turn them into solar panel radio / cd players by salvaging solar panel garden lights, its that easy! youd be surprised how big of a conspiracy electronics are. the way they monitor & track us. for many many years now. most ppl just throw angry birds around. lol samsung Makes GUNS! did anyone know that? apple better run! |

Ventur User ID: 11181621 United States 12/16/2012 01:56 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | What you did by going to a higher uF is give more storage capacity to the circuit in which it is in. If this capacitor keeps blowing you either need to raise the voltage of the capacitor to like 63 volts or check to see if the circuit has a diode in it which may be faulty because it is letting AC into the circuit. The problem with most consumer electronics is that they are designed to have a short life like 5 years and the way you do this as a electronic engineer is to put components in the circuit that are at the verge of there specs. Like a capacitor in a circuit that is 35volts but the circuit is running at 36volts this will slowly degrade the capacitor and it will eventually blow. If these company made circuits like they should a TV or a Radio would last almost forever. But than they wont be able to sell more units. |

Wiki says: "A farad is the charge in ampere seconds which a capacitor will accept for the potential across it to change 1 volt." ah memorie refresh! energy can be so complicated, volts, amps, resistance, farads, columbs, hertz, my first thing ive built with components was a Rectifier Bridge, using 4 diodes, i converted Alternating Current to Direct Current, Which was part of a wind generator i was making by scrapping an old printer for its, stepper motor, when spun by hand produces AC current, that runs into the bridge rectifyer and comes out as Direct current which can charge a Battery! ive also charge REGULAR DURACELL Batteries, that are not chargable.. just by hooking them up to a 12V car batterie... (may explode) LOL but you can actually recharge a non rechargable batterie. AC DC! done dirt Cheap! |

I think you need to ground them against the chassic or something to dissapate the charge. Otherwise you might be finding out what a taser does. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 29995664 yeah u can charge up a capacitor and stick someone with it like a tazer, im not exactly sure what ratings would give you more amps, its the amps that really get you, suposibly you can die from being shocked with something like .08 of an amp can flutter your heart enough to kill you, i myself have been shocked good with 120v 15amp ac, feels real weird, but i survived! |

lightchild_uk Waiting for IT User ID: 29540542 United Kingdom 12/16/2012 03:19 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | How the capacitor works in this situation is like this - Imagine An old fashioned hand water pump that squirts water each time you pull the handle. (The input voltage) Underneath is a large bucket with a small hole in the bottom (The capacitor) Once the bucket fills and you keep pumping up the water will flow out of the hole at a steady rate. The bucket smooths out the flow of water. Even when the supply is removed the water (power) will still flow out until the bucket is empty. The larger the capacitance (capacity) the larger the bucket. The voltage is related to the strength of the bucket and the input pressure it can withstand. |
