My kid's school district just called with a recorded message that said the creepiest thing....UPDATE: New msg

I thank you for posting this OP. This is very important & the schools need to recognize that there are people out there that truly believe that the world is going to end. I still recall Y2K panic and I recall those people from Hail Bob- the ones that put on purple sneakers. Unstable people are lacking on rational thoughts & lack of rational thoughts leads to irrational behavior. People scare me, not people but due to the PC attitude of trying to please all, I feel that safety has lapsed.

Ok I didn't realize there was a difference, I have friends whose children go to public school, they found a bomb in a house within a block of their school and they were informed that they were on lock down and told his kids couldn't be picked up. If it would have been me the sheriff would have to come pick me up because I would have tried to grab my kids and been gone. BTW the bomb was big enough to take out the whole block.

Very difficult task for a mother

The adults making this decision are concerned for the teachers as well as the children. I think they are wise to consider that date.. not that I personally believe anything will happen but the schools are bound to be overly vigilant now.

I can understand the extra security to put people's minds at ease but to mention the Mayan calender is beyond weird!

As it already has! I seriously think this is the case. Some of these people have bought into it and figure why the hell not do what they want whether it be suicide, mass murder, robbery hey if the world is gonna end why the hell not. I have never been scared of 12/21 but rather crazy peoples reactions to it.

hummm school is out for the holidays from the 19th till after new years here..figured all schools would be on holiday break before the 21st.

I think it has to do with fire code, and firemen having access to get in the building in case there is a fire.

Both my daughter's school in Virginia (she's a teacher) and the schools at which I volunteer in Maryland have locked doors, buzzers, positive video ID. This was put in place right after 9/11.

But as to the original post, it would seem that the message of fear has been propagated far and wide. People are closing up their hearts in a time when they should be opening them: to God, to each other. Isolation is now the norm.

We desperately need to re-think something things -- some deep things -- as soon as possible.
