My kid's school district just called with a recorded message that said the creepiest thing....UPDATE: New msg

This ^^^^^^^ Friday some news reporter said that teachers should be talking to the children to see what is happening at home, i.e. mental issues, fighting etc.... My children know our home/our privacy. We have had many discussions on what can and cannot be shared. Those councilors are bad news, they will convince your child that you are mistreating them.

Another reason to home school your kids. I am just so glad I never had any. This world must be a nightmare for parents. I can't imagine the worry you must go through. I hope people keep their kids home on the 21st. Seems smart to do it.

WTH! My grade school child was told by their teacher that 20 kids had been killed in CT. No lock down.

I remember when 9/11 occured, my kids were still very little...I kept them out of school the rest of the week out of fear and my husband wanted to go up to the school and pull them out that day.

Our world is steadily falling into a black abyss..day by day.

this might have already been posted, but there are apparently many dec 21-st related threats going around in multiple states. one of my best friends is an asst principal here in TX and he said that they have seen multiple security memos related to dec 21st.

as far as what the OP posted, i think the school/district could have just worded it better.

i just think that adding the mayan calendar bs was an alarming thing to say to already freaked out parents.

My children are 8, 5, and 3 and they have no idea what happened on Friday, and i'm planning on keeping it that way. You know my children aren't naive to the world around them, but this is something they just don't need to hear about. I'm debating keeping them home just because they deserve to keep their innocence for just a while longer.

OP, maybe a call to the Superintendent's office on Monday morning is in order, especially to find out who wrote the announcement and why the Mayan thing was part of it.

i think the shooting is sufficient enough for an announcement regarding security efforts. why add mayan crap? it could've been left unspoken.

Makes me wonder if an alert went out (prior to the shooting) on the Mayan thing because of some threats already made.

Won't the schools be on Christmas break by the 21st?

School is out from the 19th here.The schools should have set holiday break so that none of the children are even in the schools as late as the 21st.

Should kids not be at home for the holidays on Devember 21 anyway?

Turn off the news/TV ... It must be very scary for little ones seeing/hearing about it... especially at times they are really getting graphic, some of the reporters are asking such horrible/graphic questions at the press conferences!!!

Just because of the world wide media coverage of the school shooting, I'd be nervous of a copycat right now. :(

I think you should at least tell your 8 year old. I know im not the parent here, but just let her/him know that the world isn't rainbows and sunflowers, and that lots of shit happens but you have to deal. That is an important lesson.

It is a very sad world that we live in and so much has changed in just 15 years. Children deserve their innocence but you also have to prepare them at a young age for any dangers they may encounter. Sure no talk given by a parent could have saved their child from the horrors that unfolded in Newtown. But these children did not run away because they had no idea what was unfolding around them. Then again, who would ever think you would have to prepare your child for a massacre unfolding in an elementary classroom. This proves their are some seriously deranged individuals in this world and even if there is a ban on firearms, humans have murdered, maimed, and raped since the beginning of time. Someone hell bent on killing children at a school could just as easily walk in with a power tool or chainsaw. Are we going to outlaw these when events like this continue to happen? Guns are dangerous but I believe an adult should have the option of owning one to protect his family and property or for sports. But if you leave your firearm lying around and your child or a mentally unstable person gains access to it you should go to prison. If they murder someone, you should be charged with murder. Hell, children choke on plastic bags all of the time and it is normally due to the irresponsibility of whoever is responsible for them. I'm not turning this into a debate about firearms because I am honestly sick of talking about it. Most of these events transpire from broken families and children who have been taught no moral values because their parents have none.

I agree. That is creepy. However, maybe they heard stuff about the day for your area and decided to throw it in.

I am happy to report that our school district is already on vacation on Dec. 21. Wonder if they were prescient? Probably not.

Also in Colo here. Our school district called Friday to all homes and stated all schools were on lock-out, meaning no one could enter.

My son actually has a field trip scheduled to see The Hobbit on Friday the 21st. He gets to stay home, thank you very much.

I'd keep them home....more for YOUR sake,
you won't be so worried.
