The right to bear arms as dictated in the constitution is there to provide a well armed militia of civilians as the last bastion against a tyrannical government, and that shall not be infringed. It says nothing about hunting or self defense or the likes. That being said, I'm always reminded of a John Adams quote "Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." As our society continues to move away from moral and religious values, the responsibility of gun ownership fails and those tools are no longer available to preserve freedom but to kill it.
