Yeah, because the threat of well-armed and well-trained law enforcement worked so well to stop him. I'm sure some school teacher or principal with a tiny little handgun and the bare minimum amount of training would have been so much more of a deterrent.

But let's pretend you are right. WOOHOO. One person stopped by a citizen with a gun. FINALLY carrying a gun has worked for ONE person among the 3 million cases of a "self-defense" weapon not being used in self-defense a year. Aaaaand I am not even talking about the illegal gun use in this country by actual criminals, I mean just the cases where "responsible gun owners" use their lawfully owned and registered weapons to threaten, intimidate, harass or hurt others.

Good thing that Portland Mall shooter didn't try and open fire on a crowd in a shopping mall or kill two people because he was afraid of other people who are carrying guns.... wait, that's exactly what he did. Not a single one of the CCWs at that mall stopped him from killing two people, did they?

I'm all for gun ownership. I love hunting too, but people are deluding themselves when they think that a killing tool in the hands of the average person protects anyone.

Also, you'll note that those guns aren't preventing the crimes, which was my original point. These kinds of psychos may be really messed up in the head, but they are also usually fairly smart, and they spend MONTHS planning these things. That is more than enough time for them to convince themselves they have overcome any opposition, just as this guy convinced himself that he would be able to accomplish his goal without police being able to stop him.

If those guns aren't preventing crime, then how come per capita violent crime statistics are exponentially lower in states that have concealed carry laws?!?!?
