The Good News even back then were only received by very few, even then the "lowest of the lows" listened, and probably would have seemed like the 0.000000000005% compared to those that were captive to the long standing traditions, beliefs, and rituals that would have seen such news as blasphemous even (seen as a rabblerouser/troublemaker by the status quo of those times)... In that regards, some things haven't changed much since then. So if 0.000000000005% can become 0.000005%, that would still be some progress, right? ![]() |

And to actually understand some of it, I suggest the Bhagavad Gita, translation by Eknath Easwaren. The Gospel of thomas was also adulterated in the "translation" of it. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 29551069 Also read Walter Russell. your enlightenment comes when you realize the God within and when by Meditation you learn to hear God within you. No! |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 21008556 be careful, alot of this gnosticism is the depths of satan The words in GoT are nothing like Gnosticism. The document was simply found among other Gnostic teachings. Jesus says the Kingdom of God can be found within us and all around us but we don't see it. Gnostics would say everything found in the material world was created by an evil force. These two ideas are polar opposite. ? OP, Gospel of Thomas is the most clear gnostic work ever written! Gnosticism has many 'factions' . The ancient Gnosis is simply the concept that 'God can be Known' which is the opposite of agnostic which means 'God can not be known, therefore God may or may not exist' . Gnosis is the inner knowing, the 'knowing of ones' self'. Gnosis (gnosticism) is the teaching that the resurrection occurs in THIS LIFE..as in NOW..if the student is ready. The gospel of thomas demonstrates clearly the deep meaning of once the person becomes aware...they will not tast death. but the process is difficult..and the dedication in getting there must be SINGULAR. I will provide one accurate translation of one of the deeper meanings of the quote below. "The dead are not alive, and the living will not die. During the days when you ate what is dead, you made it come alive. When you are in the light, what will you do? On the day when you were one, you became two. But when you become two, what will you do" "Man" is currently composed of two separate living entities. The first is the eternal and immortal being which is actually a part of the living God. The second is a created false identity which each child of God has created from birth..this identity is who you NOW think you are...that identity is FALSE, Illusory , and 'carnal'. The false identity is dead, and has always been dead due to the fact that it is an artificial intelligence which was created by 'Lucifer' and is the means of Man to be separate from God. Without that false 'mind' Man could only do Gods will. The false identity enables one to be WILLFUL and to 'seemingly' go againstthe false Gods will. I say 'seemingly' because all of choices made using the false mind are 'illusory' ...just like Playstation..or a video game...these choices have no meaning except to give the child of God an experience. So, that identity and mind is dead and will not live...EVER...although many will try to maintain it's existance in order to perpetuate willfullness. The true self, of God, is alive and will always be alive. ..and the 'secret' is that once you are able to shed your connection with the false mind (lucifer's) ...then you will return to the the MIND OF CHRIST...and you will BE ASTONISHED. the truth is above for those that wish to hear. ... |

I find the translation in 'The Nag Hammadi Library' much better than the one provided by the OP. any serious student may wish to compare the two versions. the book is actually called 'The Nag Hammadi Library' and contains some 500 pages of translations of the ancient scrolls found at Nag Hammadi (The gospel of Thomas being one of those scrolls). . |

Listen to Robert read it and read his interpretations carefully and see if it doesn't make sense. [link to www.youtube.com] |

Jesus said to them, "If you fast, you will bring sin upon yourselves, and if you pray, you will be condemned, and if you give to charity, you will harm your spirits. Thomas is a collection of hints to unpack the deeper meaning of scripture. Use the following verse to consider #14 of Thomas. Rom 7.19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. Whenever you attempt to do right, the flesh will sneak in to steal away merit. Fasting is a discipline of denying the flesh. But when you do it, the flesh sneaks back in to promote the ego by announcing the fast to others, or to inflate itself on its ability to control itself. The very act of suppressing the flesh will inflame it. It is the same with prayer. When you make effort to pray, the flesh gets in the way. It inflates itself when it observes its humility and concern for others. It takes pride in it's confessions. In giving alms the left hand (flesh) always knows what the right hand (spirit) is up to and always trying to rob it of its spiritual rewards. |
