I'm from TX too.. I can vouch for the violent nature of San Antonio. I've done a few gigs down there, and once my band had to bolt because there was a stabbing where some crazy guy went and stabbed 3 people at a place next door we were playing at and they made everyone go home.. There's always some kind of shit going on down there, and I wouldn't be surprised if some fucker pulled a gun on people in a theater either.. Very San Antonio-esque.

SAN ANTONIO -- The San Antonio Police Department are investigating an active shooting at a local movie theater located in the 1900 block of Southwest Military Drive around 9:20 p.m. today.
As of 10:40 p.m. police have not confirmed if a suspect has been arrested, or how many people may have been involved in the shooting at the Santikos Mayan Palace 14 theater complex.
Scanner traffic at the time of the shooting indicated a man suspected of being the gunman was shot, but talking to police. No details have been confirmed by San Antonio police.

San Antonio is a mostly Mexican city. Most everyone who lives there speaks Spanish, and that culture predominates there.

So it's not surprising to have a place called the Mayan movie theater as many Mexicans are of Mayan descent.
