Apparently Food from Japan is Safe according to the FDA
Radiation Safety
New and Updated Information

Updated - As of June 20th, FDA import investigators had performed 32,685 field examinations for radionuclide contamination. FDA had tested 1313 samples, 199 which were seafood or seafood products. 1312 samples had no Iodine-131, Cesium-134, Cesium-137, or other gamma-ray emitting radionuclides of concern. 1 sample was found to contain detectable levels of Cesium, but was below the established Derived Intervention Level (DIL) and posed no public health concern. More...

That seems like a relief...I'd stopped eating rice, seafood and mushrooms.

Products distributed to the public including foods and water are all safe. Japanese authorities have instituted monitoring of food products and have restricted the consumption and distribution of some products in certain prefectures, or areas found to contain radionuclides exceeding Japan's provisional regulation value. Findings from food monitoring in Japan and decisions related to the consumption and distribution of food products are published regularly on the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare web site.

Japan's sophisticated public transportation systems offer the regular service levels as before.

2. The Current Radiation Level in Japan

Except for the proximate areas near the nuclear power plants, there is no dangerous level of radiation detected in Japan. Tokyo is NOT within radiation contamination concern area, located over 200km (124 miles) away from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant facilities. The radiation level in Tokyo is similar to that of New York City. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and other international organizations confirm that the radiation level in the atmosphere is within a reasonable safety level to human health.

Keep in mind this is the same FDA that wouldn't allow GMO foods to be labeled.

Not one letter agency works for the people.

I still try to stay out of the rain here on the west coast, I wouldn't go near the foods from there
I look up at the sky, and wonder where I am on earth. Then I wonder where I am in the solar system. Then I wonder where I am in the galaxy. Then I wonder where I am in the universe. Then I wonder what universe am I in.

Not just food but also CARS and other cheap junk.

Not only from Japan but all of Asia where the fallout is.

Thank you. It's so hard to gauge the truth when their is so much conflicting information. My gut instinct when the explosions at Fukushima occurred was one of complete pessimism. I remember Michio Kaku, during the first week or so on ABC news, I believe it was, describing Fukushima, on more that one occasion, as 'apocalyptic'. This seemed to confirm my gut instinct. For a physicist to describe an event as apocalyptic is out of the ordinary and cause for grave concern.

Yep. It's safe.. according to them... chuckle

Where is the radioactive beef..?

Spatial variability of radioactive cesium fallout on grasslands estimated in various scales
[link to onlinelibrary.wiley.com]

[snip]

Large releases of radionuclides from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant have resulted in serious radioactive pollution over a wide region over Eastern Japan and the livestock industry has suffered serious damage as a result. In this study, the spatial variability of fallout radioactive cesium (Cs) on two grasslands (a pasture and a meadow) was estimated in various scales and the number of samples needed to determine the mean deposition density of radioactive Cs was calculated. In both grasslands, variances between sampling points were quite large compared with the repeated measurements.
