The only possible answer is they express the calendar in one complete cycle but what? A cosmic cycle ? When it ends, it's the ending of the time (era, age) the calendar gives information on. At it's ending, a new age comes, similar to when you hang your calendar on the wall, flip the expired month over as it ends and another begins, and at the end of December it's no longer usable for the next year (era, age...if you will). The Mayan calendar does not make any predictions of disasters, doom or the end of the world. Mayan prophecies are found in codexes. So, yes, the Mayan calendar is true...it's the information in the CODEX that is under question. That said, it's the fact that these people were able to produce such a calendar...one that predicts astronomical events to within seconds. Where did they get this knowledge? THATS what intrigues me! If the information of the calendar is so accurate, then what of the information found in the codex? Is it from the same source (who or whatever that might be)? Is it specific or is it symbolic? I don't know, but we shall see in a few days. |
