Personally, I can't see all this 2012 doomsday scenario happening. Seems like a lot of folk are using it to feather their own nests be it buy buying stocks in Whisky firms, bunker survival kits etc etc. But I do fear that because of the hype that has occurred, many many people will do some wild and irresponsible things and are going to come down hard when it all passes us by.
