While we are at it ban cars and alchohol. Those two things combined cause more deaths than you could imagine. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 27095381 United States 12/17/2012 07:59 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The only thing that is going to do any good is for people to change. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27302733 We are far too primitive right now to give up weapons. We have lunatics on the news every minute. We've got people who have an immense fascination with an object designed to take life. People collect them and worship them..clean them...gaze at them while drinking their beer. Giving guns up is not the answer right now. Both sides (Criminals) and (Vigilantes) is the reason. Until there isn't two sides...and until we hit absolute rock bottom...we will continually become more and more violent as that's currently our path. There has to be a currently-unimaginable amount of change in humanity to take place before anything like this happens. Possibly several hundred if not even a thousand years yet to go... This is not about humanity. This is about a very specific set of beliefs in the USA. Humanity doesn't suffer from paranoia in the way we do in the US. The fact there are millions of guns already out there is a real problem, but guess what, that's a result of the gun lobby coupled with very carefully crafted marketing and political lobbying to "educate" people about why they need to protect themselves. Yes it will take time to fix, but we have GOT to do something. There's a huge gap between what we have now and responsible gun control. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 29503737 People kill people. Therefor everyone should be able to carry around a suitcase nuke for defense To me, your statement is a logical fallacy. The reason guns are used for defense is because they can be directed at a person. With a suitcase nuke, you are endangering the lives of not only yourself, but others as well. There is not much "defense" in suitcase nukes if used as personal defense. You will kill yourself. What a dumb analogy to use OP. Fail. |

ming User ID: 845516 Sweden 12/17/2012 10:05 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | in 2009 there were 42 gun-related deaths in Great Britain. This number includes homicides, suicides and accidental deaths. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 29640603 In 2005 (the latest year for which numbers are available) there were 30,364 gun-related deaths in the United States. This number includes homicides, suicides, and accidental deaths. True, the United States has more people than Great Britain so you can’t really compare these two numbers. Britain has about 61 million, while the United States has about 296 million, which gives the U.S. about five times the population of Great Britain. So, a better comparison of the numbers would be to multiple the British gun deaths by five. 42 x 5 = 210 Now we can compare the numbers. Gun-related deaths for Great Britain (if given a population equal to the United States) = 210 Gun-related deaths in the United States = 30,364. 210 vs. 30,364 Add to that the uk has over 2 million legally held guns. Scotland has 1 gun per 24 people, but hardly any gun deaths, because people are vetted better, need a reason to own, must prove it will be kept securely, and we're only allowed weapons that would be extrenely difficult to use to kill en masse. Out of this ugliness may come, Some day, so beautiful a flower, That men will wonder at that hour, Remembering smoke and flowerless slum, And ask-glimpsing the agony Of the slaves who wrestle to be free- 'But why were all the poets dumb?' -William Montgomerie So many gods, so many creeds, So many paths that wind and wind, While just the art of being kind Is all the sad world needs. -Ella Wheeler Wilcox |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27667491 if so, how DO you live in such a shit country, with mortal danger at every turn? if not, then you just love your gun. admit it and you know what, i loathe obama. AND i am a libertarian. yes, i am. and i dont even think that a gun ban WOULD solve americas hideous gun homicide rate coz at the end of the day, gun lovers just like their guns. its the wild west, where a man aint a man unless he 'carry conceals' - even the terminology is laughable gun people - you aint doing yourselves any favours by being obtuse the sheer number of guns, the relatively easy availability, the lack of checks. it all adds up and some of you even think that EVERYONE should carry a gun. yeah, thatll improve things Then I want to know why all the Brits pay their good money to Holiday in the USA? If we are so terrible!!! Harper77 |
