Why do Americans need guns?

The drivers, not the cars, the person who pulls the trigger, not the gun. Stop making excuses. Give someone a gun and you allow the capacity for bad decisions. For knee jerk reaction. I don't think the arguement of protecting ourselves from an oppressive government is valid anymore. What is a person with a rifle gonna do about a bomber jet? whats he gonna do about a smart bomb.

Some arguements that are still valid are:
1. Noone wants to invade a country where all the people own guns. Just ask former japanese commander in chief Isoroku Yamamoto.
2. The vast majority of gun owners use their weapons for non violent sport and hunting animals.
3.People can protect their homes and loved ones.
4. People collect them for their historical value and monetary value.
5. A lot of people are employed by gun manufacturing and sales.
6.Guns don't kill people by themselves
7.There will ALWAYS be other weapons
8.The people who commit gun crimes acquire their weapons through illegal means much of the time.
9. Making guns illegal will Promote organized crime, just like the futile "war on drugs" has produced violent millionaire criminals, they will just get more power once weapons are out of the hands of law abiding citizens.
10. the police and military aren't always right there to protect you.
