Your assertion is a myth and propaganda. Guns are used over 1 million times each year to protect the life of an innocent. These stories are never reported, only the deaths/murders are.

Herr, not actually, you are confusing target shooting in a range, that has to be done to the front (for security reasons), with tactical/defense/combat shooting, that teaches tecniques to shoot to your back and sides. The techniques that "momentarily disable" an attacker, like the OP that you replied pointed out correctly, don´t work 100% of the time and you have even worst odds if the person is bigger, drunk, drogged, etc. Just ask any experienced bouncer, they will tell you.

There are many reasons. Mexico sends tens of thousands of guns over a year, all being held by nationalists and illegals. I'm not saying that is bad, but it is a reason for self defense. After a crime is committed with a gun, that gun is supposed to be destroyed or held permanently; most of which are being given out by dirty cops. Gangs have A LOT of weaponry, including grenades and rocket launchers.

Secondly, a mountain lion tried to break into my house about 2 years ago. If it were not for my gun, I wouldn't be typing this to you. Likewise, if you have an egg farm (raising chickens) and you are reliant on that income/food source a coyote could have you starve to death in one nights ransacking.

With all of those reasons to own a gun. Proper handling and ability to shoot when needed is a must. That is why a person should create good habits when handling their guns. Otherwise, how would a person know that the first thing you should do when taking a gun it to check if it it loaded. Or how to remove a jam without killing yourself or another person. With people having to practice proper handling and shooting, sport is made :)

Knowing where to hit your attacker gives you a fighting chance to run away or at least time to pull out the gun, but saying that just because you carry one you are safe is an idiotic response.

Then again, no, there are several techniques you can use to draw your gun and shoot to someone that is grabbing from behind, usually, you do some self defence technique to help you gain time to withdraw the gun. Another thing that unexperienced people do is to carry on a purse or bag, if possible (wheather allowing) the gun always ride in your waist. Always.
You should visit some shooting academies over there. I can see that you have a lot of basic questions that can easily be answered by a qualified instructor.

Because :

A) my house has never been robbed
B) I have never been robbed myself
C) NO ONE ELSE HAS A GUN
D) there is no need for a gun
E) Shootings such as this DO happen in England, there was a shooting last year. The fist in something like 10 years. Therefore, your argument that banning guns will make the place more dangerous is poor.

If everyone carried a gun then there will be no street robberies etc, your "for protection" idea is at least misguided.

All the other best quotes were taken. Believe me, if you have ever been violently attacked in a society where gun ownership is legal, you will never pass a gun counter again without looking. The cold hard truth is, society in general is collapsing at an alarming speed. I would be ashamed to face my family knowing I did not do everything I could to defend them from injustice. This also comes with a slew of responsibilities and additional safeguards one must follow:

*Never leave a weapon where a child can get it.

*Store ammo in a clean, dry environment, preferably away from the weapon. If you don't have the time to load your weapon, you should not be firing it. This prevents waking suddenly and shooting your son going to get his first glass of water alone at night, and the unnecessary tragedy of attempting to shoot at an entire swat team busting into your room at night (You would not win anyway, you aren't an action star.)

*Never leave a weapon where a child can get it.

*Do not produce your weapon on the street unless it is to be used. A firearm is like an adrenaline charged, last-ditch, all-out, Mighty Uppercut. You end a confrontation with it, not incite one. Do not pull unless ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that if you do not you will die, and if you have to do it, do not hesitate.

*Never leave a weapon where a CHILD can get it!

*Don't play with your guns, unloaded or not. The last thing your want your children to do is see you playing with that toy that you tell them not to touch.

It is not responsible adults loosing their cheese and wanting to play SoCom, it is those that are handling their weapons inappropriately causing this abomination. And it is true that even if they could successfully remove all firearms from society, then they would switch to swords, cars, makeshift bombs, or clubs. But if someone does go psycho and decide to shoot up somewhere you are, you will be grateful for someone else who came prepared.

For every one of these horrible incidents, many more are averted by the very thing that is now being vilified here-Guns. Or more accurately, Gun owners. For it is not the weapon he wields, but the cause for which he wields it.

There is nothing wrong with RESPONSIBLE gun ownership.

However, keeping guns and ammo in a home with a mentally unstable person, especially one on meds is NOT responsible gun ownership.

Teaching said mentally unstable person how to use the guns is even more irresponsible.

Just as in other things, one needs to use common sense in their life.

While I do agree with you that it can work, the sorrowful truth is that train left the station over a century ago for us. Now, there are far too many guns floating around that the government does NOT know of that the criminal element will have easy access to, while the compliant law abiding citizens give up their weapons...

See the problem here? It works great over there. You did not have an old west phase, and very little guns are to be had. Do they get in? sure, but the demand is lower.

Tell you what, take a look at any celebratory video from the middle east and try to not see a young child shooting a fully automatic weapon in the crowd. Now that is dire need of gun control.
