Colorado governor points to VIOLENCE in VIDEO GAMES
Violent video games and a "culture of violence" found in the media could be contributing factors to mass shootings, Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper said Sunday.

"There might well be some direct connection between people who have some mental instability and when they go over the edge - they transport themselves, they become part of one of those video games," Hickenlooper said on CNN's "State of the Union." "Perhaps that's why all these assault weapons are used."

The Democratic governor argued that some gun regulations need to be tweaked but said more immediate changes can take place by targeting mental health.

GOP Congressman Calls On Government To Address Violence In Video Games

Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) told George Stephanopoulos on ABC’s This Week on Sunday that, because of the violent “realism” found in “games and movies,” some young adults are unable to make the transition from their teen years to adulthood, leading to a mental health crisis.

Nope. Can't believe it. Here's why.

Before there was all of this kid on kid crime, the parent was removed from the home and from being able to discipline the child. This is where it started. No guidance, no rules, no oversight of the child's morality from parents, or the community. The Government raises our children these days.

Except for the few, like you, Koffee, who understand the role of good parenting.

Re: Colorado governor points to VIOLENCE in VIDEO GAMES
Of coarse, just something else to blame.

Video games have been getting progressively dumber over the years to maximize playability. Players get caught in a sort of repetitive feedback loop.

Games are no more violent than they where 10 years ago, but they don't offer the same challenge.

It is not the violence it is the repetition and lack of objective.

 Quoting: Éireann

I personally know someone who has struggled for almost twenty years raising a son who has a personality disorder. The doctor's kept changing the diagnosis and his medication, which caused the parents much confusion and frustration as they did not know how best to treat him. His first diagnosis WAS Asperger's Syndrome, but then they changed it.

He has been taking adult meds since he was 4! I believe the medication contributes to his condition.

The point I'm trying to make here, is that these parents devoted much time, money and love to raising this child. I've seen what they've gone through. I've seen the fear they had once he grew, and got older--and at time became uncontrollable. They did more than their best to keep his "mental issues" at bay.

There is some truth in what you have to say--the government does raise many of the children these days.

Maybe the good that will come out of this is parents will become more aware and more involved in the care and nurture of their children.

A Well-Mannered Grown-up’s Defense of Violence in Video Games

The debate about the link between video games and real-world violence has been popping up in the news again. A recently published study states that long-term gameplay does increase aggression, while an earlier video by GameSpot series The What If Machine outlined why the issue is too complex to address conclusively.

While I can’t add anything to the scientific discussion, the sidenote that I feel is missing is why adults — you know, the people who these games are made for — enjoy violent gameplay in the first place.

Perhaps it doesn’t matter in terms of researching aggression, but when people start fretting about violence in games, I get the impression that they imagine adult gamers as stunted miscreants, hopelessly addicted to our mind-sucking murder simulators. That much, at least, I feel qualified to talk about.

I have two Christian sons who have played these games in the past. On occasion, they still do now.

One is fine when he plays, the other can become aggressive, angry and curse--so much cursing from a mouth that suppose to belong to God.

We've had many arguments over him playing this one specific game that always brings out the worst in him. He realizes it now and stays away from that game.

I think violent video games should have been banned a long time ago.

I know, we live in free country.... but I believe they are deleterious to those who engage in them and add no value.
