Why do people always buy and "prepare" with the stupidest items?

Bread - goes bad quickly, can't survive off just bread or you'll be weak and unhealthy.

Milk - same as above, goes bad even faster.

Salt - you can't even eat salt. If you can't kill animals, you won't have meat to preserve with the salt.

Torches - LOL.

Massive amounts of canned food - you can't avoid getting the flu or an infection from a small cut with 500 cans of beans and vegetables.

What people SHOULD get:

1.)Guns (pistols and rifles and shotguns)
2.)Ammo and spare parts for ALL the guns
3.)Food to last your house ONLY 1 YEAR AT THE MOST, if society still isn't normal an entire year later then you must be able to find somewhere else to live anyway, things are done at that point.
4.) 3 DIFFERENT ways to clean water and get rid of parasites, germs, and generally chemical contaminants.
(Steam collection and distilling, chemical / bleach purification, and a way to strain the water down to a few microns, all of these are easy and cheap and can be bought online for at the most 100$)
5.) LOTS of different medications and antibiotics for everything that could go wrong, this includes gauze, band aids, rubbing alcohol (lots of it) antibiotics with good shelf lives for many different ailments, tylenol, and also a large book that lists symptoms of problems and how to fix them / what to do, you can't just google it when theres no power.
6.) more than 1 way to heat your home / shelter, make sure you have some way to vent the smoke of a fire, and also to shield the light from getting out to where others can see and smell that you have food and a warm shelter.

There was an article in the local paper yesterday about the whole 2012 thing. Included was a map with different colors representing the percentage of survey respondents who believed disaster was imminent. I was surprised to see the highest concentration in Russia and surrounding areas.

I just got back from seeing the Mayan ruins at Uxmal. My tour guide told me the world wasn't ending on the 21st. It's the start of a new long count calendar for the Mayans. That's what the tour guide said, and he was a super guy, so-- Doom off, right?! Y'all can still have panic sex. though, lol.
