Seriously...

emotionally, physically, mentally...

a world that offers stability, sanity, love, warmth, promising futures?

we continue to point fingers and blame, but nobody is willing to stand up and make a difference.

this world has gone completely insane.
and our kids are left alone to cope with it.
we, as adults, are doing nothing to offer compassion or understanding.

this is the core issue.

From a governmental view NOTHING. The best thing is to home school and teach our children MORALS, it all starts there. Survival skills are also a necessity in todays screwed up world. TV programming is also a problem as to how it affects our children and shows them a non realistic world which they strive to copy. There is NO quick answer to your VERY pertinent question.

yes!

the best thing we can teach our kids is that they are loved, and how to survive in this world. that means tactical skills and coping skills.

it also means teaching them independence.

You can try to change the world to make it a good place, but at the same time you need to prepare someone that can deal with the worst and still come out in one piece emotionally as well as physically. I don't think this planet will ever be ideal. In fact it looks like we're poised to enter a badly written futuristic dystopia war novel.

Re: I would not want to be a kid in today's world. What are we doing to cultivate a emotionally healthy environs for our children?
Taking personal responsibility is a helpful skill that my parents did not teach me very well to do. As an adult, I wanted to give my power over to others and this got me in a lot of trouble and left me hurting.

I have learned that there is no savior outside of me. Take that as religion, relationship, and medically. Laying down and expecting to be healed by a dr or a therapist or kissed by some prince, or saved by some govt program, this thinking robs us of personal responsibility.

Teach your children to own their lives, their creations, good and bad. React in ways that encourage ownership and do not force a blame mentality with punishment. We all make mistakes and most things are not that big of a deal. Stop making a big deal over stuff that is really not important.

put them in a Christian school in RURAL America.

Don't let them watch trash on tv, and by the time they do, morals will be their foundation; they will grow up to be great people.

Re: I would not want to be a kid in today's world. What are we doing to cultivate a emotionally healthy environs for our children?
First things first. Before we can give children a stable healthy communit/city/country to grow up in, we first must be able to provide them with stable healthy HOMES to live in. It all starts at home.

People need to only have children if they are truly in love. Children need to grow up in a two parent home. Be tought morals. Fathers need to stay around, and raise the kids they have. Momma needs to realize she is going to have an effed up child if she is out till 3am partying still.

That's step 1

The only way to raise emotionally healthy children in this society is to have as little to do with it as possible. No TV, no internet, no MSM news, NO PUBLIC SCHOOL.

Re: I would not want to be a kid in today's world. What are we doing to cultivate a emotionally healthy environs for our children?
The one thing we need to understand is that the first solution is to turn around and look towards the building of our families, neighbors and communities. We need to turn away from the eternal one way solution of the Federal Government legislation. If you live in a country other than the USA you need to apply these principals in your land as well. The whole world is getting polluted with this bad delivery on good intentions. Start testing the facts. Start making things work for a change.

Another solution is to start cleaning up our science. Science has probably become the most polluted art with this bad results [from] good intent thinking. It is blinding our eyes to solutions that work and to a world that works. We need to apply the scientific method for real. Stop trying to prove things at all costs and start trying to see what actually the reality is. Without this solution, Psychology, Sociology and other human behavioral sciences have no chance of serving up good solutions to our problems.

We need to push hard for developing criteria for measuring success that are realistic. For example we need to stop measuring our schools by how many active shooter classes they give or drug resistance classes they give, and start measuring them by actually measured reduction of these problems in the community. We have pushed massive efforts over the last 40 years against drugs to the effect of seeing the use of drugs going up by more than 10 times. This is an unqualified failure.

We need to push hard for the construction of good strong people as our children grow up. We need to measure this by the fewer crimes they do and by the more they achieve in learning. Finally we need to measure this as successful by the more of them that do productive work for our society and communities and by their earning more for the whole of themselves and their communities.

Sadly, the current state of affairs is that we are systematically destroying the children and their future. Our college graduates leave school with massive debts only to find that they are not wanted in the job market. Our children are learning that trying is not working. This is an intolerable situation. We cannot afford anyone in our society who is not being constructive. This includes dealing with the super-rich who use their fortunes to damage society and our nations.

We can and we must do better. The most important thing people must understand is that they are able to do good themselves. You see the most important need of every decent person is to be useful. This is what we must empower, encourage and develop in every way.

In the near future inventors are going to give us robots that will do absolutely every job known to man. We are equally likely to provide humanity with unlimited energy and material resources. In that world no human being will have any work that is of necessity to do. This is already under way. There is no stopping this reality. This makes this issue of building up human beings an even higher priority than it was before. It now is a matter of survival for the human race.

One needs only to imagine a world run by the current rules and conditions possessed of the coming energy and technology conditions. That would be a perfect hell for mankind. We have to invent our world conditions and society with equal drive as we push towards the issues of energy and automation. It is also clear that every political ideology of today is completely without any means to deal with this future.

It is your choice, descend into hell; or will you join in and bring us a better world measured by how it improves the human condition. Doing nothing is suicide for all mankind.

we can't change the world.
but we can change our perspective and survival within in.

there has been a rapid decline in our civilization.
we need to meet and match it with survival and coping skills for our children.

sad but true.
maybe we need to all become mother's like sarah connor?

seriously.

I agree... I would also not want to be raising children today. My only child is 23 and I pray each and everyday that I did a good job of teaching him life skills.

Re: I would not want to be a kid in today's world. What are we doing to cultivate a emotionally healthy environs for our children?
Well, I left my career in EMS, took my son out of public school, and have home schooled him since fourth grade. He plays basketball for a home school team, has been a member of Civil Air Patrol, and Scouts and is currently an explorer with US Forest Service wildland firefighting.

He takes flight lessons, wrestles, and we belong to a home school cooperative that has both religious and secular members. Oh, and don't let us forget 4H.

Most of all, my wife and I talk to him!

Yeah, it's been a financial strain and an difficult to leave a career I love, but to have a son that is academically a year ahead of his peers and emotionally light-years ahead is worth it.

Here is a quote from my son about the shootings:

"Damn pop, this is just horrible. What's worse is how the assholes on both sides will exploit this! It's very similar to the days of Caligula, if you stop and think about it."

The shooting brought a tear to his eye, my wife, and mine. I didn't interject a bunch of political rhetoric, I discussed it with him like a man.
