I just wrote this long reply and accidentally deleted it..ugh.

I wouldn't want to be a kid these days or a parent, it's a different world then when I was growing up.

I will tell you that I've noticed that a lot of kids dictate to their parents instead of the other way around. Parents want to be friends and are afraid that little Johnny might hate them or get mad.

Also a lot of younger people have zero respect for their elders. When I see a young person do something nice I go out of my way to tell them. As when I go to get on the bus and the 18 year old practically pushes the old ladies with bags out of the way to get on an empty bus..it pisses me off.

The media and brain washing trash television that young people watch is a huge part of the problem. 16 and Pregnant, The Real World where it is perfectly acceptable for young ladies to get drunk, black out and have sex with whomever they run into to..it's sick.

I could go on and on LOL. Something has to be done and quick. I fear for the future of our earth if we are to leave it in the hands of people who cannot function.

So the current media spin is meant to result in a population disarmed and their children having no self defense skills.

My parents were distant and didn't teach me anything.
Sometimes I wish I had parents that actually had actually prepared me for what I've come to realize.
I was basically on my own and have had to learn to deal by myself.
Sometimes you're just born able to take care of yourself and I believe that it makes you learn quicker and faster instead of always relying on your parents for support.

Television is terrible. It was years ago and it seems to get only worse. But what can one do? Forbid too watch or forbid the tv producers to make that kind of trash?
Maybe teach the children that it is trash and they better not watch it?

Seriously...

emotionally, physically, mentally...

a world that offers stability, sanity, love, warmth, promising futures?

we continue to point fingers and blame, but nobody is willing to stand up and make a difference.

this world has gone completely insane.
and our kids are left alone to cope with it.
we, as adults, are doing nothing to offer compassion or understanding.

this is the core issue.

I've always wondered why so many people have children into poverty in third world countries. I can only presume a lot of it is through rape. If you, yourself are in the middle of a famine with no food and all but dirty drinking water would you choose to start having babies? I don't think anyone sane would anyway.

I also see exactly what your saying with your initial post. We have lost the ability to nurture and cherish our kids so they grow up into decent human beings, or at the very least it's increasingly more difficult to instil values into children that aren't influenced by all the crap they watch on tv and bad habits they learn from other kids who's parents haven't put the same hard effort into bringing their kids up that you have with your own kids. Somewhere along the way, empathy is very quickly being eliminated from society and without it, it's surely no holds barred for the way you'll be willing to treat others.

It's amazing that some are born with natural instincts and logical thinking with little input from outside and some are not. Always makes me think about the bigger picture and leaves me with more questions.

what i am saying is that the world has changed, drastically, and quickly. we are in the midst of an immediate and rapid decline and decay of society and civilization.

we need to gear up and deal with it ourselves, let alone prepare our children.

No, not all kids are like that which is why I go out of my way to recognize a young person that I see doing good. I have 4 grown kids and they are all functioning members of society, not perfect but they are great.

I didn't really censor them but would talk about what things they did see. It's impossible to hide them from everything. Growing up we did not discuss sex, it was forbidden.

Kids need guidance now more then ever. I also have to agree that the one parent household has changed things. I did it and it was very difficult, I would have loved to have the male figure around, it makes a difference.

Re: I would not want to be a kid in today's world. What are we doing to cultivate a emotionally healthy environs for our children?
Age 0-3 years is when the emotional stability is created in a human. It has to come from the mother. It is a FULL TIME job. It is not really a "job" because it comes from instinct. Look at all the mammals....
In other, much poorer countries governments give income to mothers for first 3 years of their child; Sweden and communist Hungary were the first in the 70-es to introduce, and still in effect.
Today in the US mothers lost their mothering skills (I suspect even the instincts some reason), plus do not have enough time to give emotional stability to their children, because they have to make money.
This is why we keep producing screwed-up people.

The kids are growing up too fast and are not being allowed to act as kids. With the internet and every human on Earth needing a phone to tell them when to eat and shit, and they wonder why kids are unsocial. Were there mass school murders before the internet?..i dont remember any.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 14577922

Yes. Try Anthony Barbaro for one. [link to en.wikipedia.org]

I do, however, agree that the net is probably not a good place for kids. I'm a gamer and a mother. I'll never forget the afternoon where a group of young men described how they were going to rape me until I was bleeding (in disgusting detail). Basically, allowing your child on the internet without strict controls (and the savvy to know how to make sure they aren't working around it--kids are smart) is pretty much the equivalent of letting your 10 year old walk through a city with a high crime rate--alone and expecting them to come out unscathed. Odds are, they're going to run into some significant assholes or witness the dredges of humanity, who tend to be the loudest.

TV also should be a no-no. The people who create the shows aren't interested so much in raising your child with the proper mindset--they are interested in ratings. Period.

I took my 17 year old daughter to "The Hunger Games." She sat through the film fine. I was very disturbed by that movie. Kids killing kids is some of the darkest energy on earth. The film has become like reality here now with parents and adults sacrificing their children and training them to fight for survival and then feeding off that energy using media. I don't want to be a part of the dystopian world depicted in The Hunger Games. I had an in depth discussion with my daughter after the film about her thoughts.

Yes Salt, particularly the onset of these drugs. The drugs are being pushed so severely on these kids, and the parents are so stressed out because of the structure of this rigged economy that they just listen to these Nazi psychiatrist and Agenda 21 controlled school departments. We, the adults must wake up and get off the pharmaceuticals and street drugs to take care of our kids.

Never saw that film.
But with every kind of aggressive or kind of horror movie on tv I watched with my son, I zapped to another channel till the horror was gone...and back...till it was safe...;-)

Since my son was 18 he watched every thriller or horror movie without obviously any feeling or fright.

I still put my hands before my eyes when something bad is going to happen...

My son says: "it is not real, it's just a movie."

I say: "To me it looks real, I just can't watch it..."

Honestly I have to agree with you there. My dad was a violent alcoholic and mad our lives miserable, did a lot of damage and I am sure if he wasn't in the picture we would have been a lot happier and not have all of the awful memories but it was very difficult for woman back then to survive on their own.

I raised them on my own starting after their dad discovered crack. I worked two jobs most of the time...my mom helped me out a lot.

Wanted to add that when my youngest was in 1st grade the school suggested I put him on meds. He glued the legs of his desk to the floor because it was lopsided and moving around. Hell no!

There was no such thing as ADHD when I was in school. There were always one or two kids that were little more exuberant or would misbehave but that usually got solved by teachers and parents working together.

I would teach our children violence in any form is not the way to solve our problems.

I'm watching Dr. Phil right now. They have several parents on who are worried that their sons are capable of killing them and committing the same type of killings that Adam Lanza committed.

The children are complaining of being ignored by their parents and also of being bullied at school.

...

I agree.

But not all kids are like that. My son is perfect...peace

Television is terrible. It was years ago and it seems to get only worse. But what can one do? Forbid too watch or forbid the tv producers to make that kind of trash?
Maybe teach the children that it is trash and they better not watch it?

No, not all kids are like that which is why I go out of my way to recognize a young person that I see doing good. I have 4 grown kids and they are all functioning members of society, not perfect but they are great.

I didn't really censor them but would talk about what things they did see. It's impossible to hide them from everything. Growing up we did not discuss sex, it was forbidden.

Kids need guidance now more then ever. I also have to agree that the one parent household has changed things. I did it and it was very difficult, I would have loved to have the male figure around, it makes a difference.
 Quoting: geminilion

I did it too. Not easy on your own. But it might even be better than with that male figure around.
Ofcourse I missed someone too. It depends on if that person would be a loving father or a father who walked away after a few years.
Better ONE loving parent than two fighting...

You raised four on your own?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28057136

 Quoting: Defj@m

i don't think we've lost the ability to nurture our children.
that's not what i'm saying at all.

what i am saying is that the world has changed, drastically, and quickly. we are in the midst of an immediate and rapid decline and decay of society and civilization.

we need to gear up and deal with it ourselves, let alone prepare our children.

that's what this thread is about.

getting with the reality of the state of the world, see it thru the eyes of our children, then prepare them properly to survive in it.
 Quoting: Salt

Maybe the more we adults talk about it, the worse it will get.
Some older children read this too.

Do you have children yourself OP?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28057136

i have two children. i 21 yr old son, an 11 yr old daughter (both from ONE husband)

the more we talk about it, the better it gets.
we NEED to talk about it.

Re: I would not want to be a kid in today's world. What are we doing to cultivate a emotionally healthy environs for our children?
I took my 17 year old daughter to "The Hunger Games." She sat through the film fine. I was very disturbed by that movie. Kids killing kids is some of the darkest energy on earth. The film has become like reality here now with parents and adults sacrificing their children and training them to fight for survival and then feeding off that energy using media. I don't want to be a part of the dystopian world depicted in The Hunger Games. I had an in depth discussion with my daughter after the film about her thoughts.
 Quoting: ruser

my daughter was taken to that movie (without my consent) by relatives of her father.

she cried hard.

we talked about it at good length.

that movie sickens me.
