You read and hear this time and time again.

Do you really believe they were not "allowed" to release information?

There is no way to go back and get follow up questions or, if the info turns out to be untrue (a lie), ask the person why he/she told a lie!?

Why does MSM routinely publish this type of unattributed information about a major news story, when there is no way to verify the information.

Who told the "anonymous" source what to say and to who?

If an official gave out information to the press, unauthorized, an internal investigation would easily pin-point the source, AND HE OR SHE WOULD BE FIRED ON THE SPOT!!

Why does it take days, weeks, or months for idiots like Lt. Vance dodging questions, giving non-answers, ducking questions asked, and answering questions unasked.

I took journalism in college a long time ago...back then, this type of "source" would never be printed in a legitimate newspaper or tv news.

Back then we called it...an unfounded RUMOR!

The motto was always: Consider the source!

just found this in related thread from 2007- obviously this station did not start a trend!

Radio Station Cries 'Enough' -- Won't Quote From Certain News Stories Relying on Unnamed Officials

By Greg Mitchell

Published: February 13, 2007 10:55 PM ET

NEW YORK After the latest widely-publicized stories in national newspapers about weapons from Iran allegedly killing Americans in Iraq -- based completely on unnamed sources -- at least one smaller news outlet has had enough of it.

The news director of the public radio station in Santa Fe, New Mexico, has directed his staff to "ignore national stories quoting unnamed sources." He also called on other news outlets to join this policy.

Bill Dupuy sent the following to his news staff.
*

Effectively immediately and until further notice, it is the policy of KSFR's news department to ignore and not repeat any wire service or nationally published story about Iran, China, North Korea, Pakistan, Russia or any other foreign power that quotes an "unnamed" U.S. official.

What we have suspected and talked about at length before is now becoming clear. "High administration officials speaking on the condition of anonymity," "Usually reliable Washington sources," and others of the like were behind the publicity that added credibility to the need to go to war against Afghanistan and Iraq.

Our news department covers local news. But, like local newspapers and others, we occassionally are taken in by national stories that we have no way to verify.

This is a small news department with a small reach. We cannot research these stories ourselves. But we can take steps not to compromise our integrity. We should not dutifully parrot whatever comes out of Washington, on the
wire or by whatever means, no matter how intriguing and urgent it sounds, when the source is unnamed.

I am also calling on our colleagues in other local news departments -- broadcast and print -- to take the same professional approach.

It works for the media. The majority of people never question or doubt these "anonymous sources."

It is about complete government information control. If you work for the government and release information without getting their approval you can loose your job and go to jail.

By releasing information from an unknown source they can lie to you constantly without repercussion.

Pretty much all media is government controlled or edited in some way, some more than others. Sometimes so called "insiders" give tip-offs to journalists, or they get it from "think-tanks" - those infos however are coming from inside the government/military/secret agencies to give the news a certain spin in the direction they want.

It's just like with the Syria scenario - how often have we heard "We can no independently verify the authenticity of this video" or something like that.
Same bullshit.

When you hear any of those things, flags should go up and better to research the story yourself.
