Analogous to the earth's equator, it divides the galaxy into two hemispheres, or lobes." That's the definition of the Galactic Plane not the Galactic Equator. If the author of the website even don't know the difference between galactic equator and galactic plane - how trustworthy is the rest of his assumptions? . He hasn't got a clue. Doesn't even understand what a supernova is.... and thinks that black holes can emit pulsars..  Oh! and as for using 'The Sun' newspaper as a source of scientific info.... OMG, I laughed so hard I nearly shit myself. He's right, some of them do sound Gay. This one was somewhat monotone or nasel so it was probably good info but tough to stick with.
